THE OPPORTUNITY

Our Australian Steel Products (ASP) business is looking for a Head of Energy and Carbon in our Manufacturing Finance team based in Port Kembla. For Sydney based applicants the option to split your time between Mascot and Port Kembla is also an option.
Reporting to the Manager Finance (Manufacturing), you will ensure ASP’s current and future energy needs are achieved. In this senior leadership position, you will provide expert advice to our senior and executive leaders and act as the face of BlueScope, representing us at government and utility market forums.
Your exceptional commercial acumen will be on full display as you manage complex supply contracts and evaluate the impact of energy legislation or market changes on our business.

Responsibilities

Leading and guiding the Energy and Carbon team, you will:

  • develop and implement energy sourcing strategies to meet the business’s current and future energy and utility needs, ensuring cost-effective, reliable, and sustainable solutions while navigating the transition to renewables
  • assess existing and future energy, utility, and greenhouse gas legislation and regulations, ensuring compliance and identifying strategic opportunities for the business
  • advise senior leaders on key energy challenges, sourcing strategies, and lobbying activities
  • engage with key market bodies and Government on energy policy, regulation, and market transformation initiatives
  • provide strategic advice on energy and utilities sourcing, reporting, compliance and utilisation – ensuring immediate and future business needs are secured
  • achieve maximum value whilst minimising risk – negotiate and manage all utility contracts for Manufacturing and our Downstream businesses
  • partner with Environment, Engineering, Operations and Corporate teams to formulate and deliver energy and emissions reduction strategies
