ABOUT LAWLER GROUP

Lawler Group is a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with a strong reputation in sustainability, energy management, and the built environment. As we continue to expand, we are seeking a Head of Energy Modelling to lead and develop our energy modelling function, playing a strategic role in shaping high-impact, low-carbon building solutions across our commercial and public-sector projects.
This senior position offers a unique opportunity to drive innovation, influence sustainable design decisions, and lead a team of modellers and consultants. You will be a key player in delivering decarbonisation strategies and compliance modelling, ensuring technical excellence across all projects.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

This role is ideal for a technically strong and commercially aware professional ready to take the next step into leadership, or an experienced team leader seeking to shape the direction of energy modelling services in a dynamic, growing company.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in building energy modelling, with a proven track record in delivering high-quality work across large-scale commercial or public-sector projects
  • Advanced proficiency in IES VE software and strong understanding of Irish Building Regulations (Part L)
  • Degree in engineering, architecture, environmental science, or a related field
  • Deep understanding of energy use in buildings, passive design, HVAC systems, and low-carbon technologies
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and team management skills
  • Experience in client-facing roles with excellent communication and presentation abilities
  • Working knowledge of operational and embodied carbon, whole life-cycle carbon assessment, and net-zero carbon frameworks
Responsibilities
  • Lead the energy modelling team and provide technical oversight on all modelling projects using IES VE and other industry-standard tools
  • Develop and refine modelling standards, QA/QC procedures, and workflows to ensure consistency, efficiency, and technical accuracy
  • Support strategic decision-making around sustainability, operational energy, embodied carbon, and net-zero pathways for new and existing developments
  • Engage with senior clients and stakeholders, presenting findings and advising on design optimisation, regulatory compliance, and sustainability certifications (e.g., BER, LEED, BREEAM, NZEB)
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams including architects, engineers, and sustainability consultants
  • Stay ahead of policy changes, building regulations, and industry innovation to maintain our competitive edge
  • Mentor and develop junior staff through structured training and project leadership
  • Contribute to business development by supporting proposals, attending industry events, and building client relationships
