Description
Role Introduction We’re looking for a Head of Engineering Fabrication to lead our Engineering Fabrication department across Mechanical and Electrical Fabrication. You’ll be accountable for how the workshop runs day to day — planning work, coordinating priorities, leading the team, and keeping delivery safe, organised, and quality-compliant. This role works closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, Project Management and support teams to keep projects moving smoothly. About Creature Technology  Creature Technology Company (CTC) are award winning global leaders in creating awe inspiring creatures that captivate visitors at some of the world’s most exciting visitor attractions and theatre productions. We are an all-in-one design, engineering, and fabrication studio. Combining creativity, artistry, and cutting-edge technology to bring animatronic characters to life. A little about the role and why it matters Engineering Fabrication is where designs become real, working builds. This role makes sure the workshop has clear priorities, the right people and resources in place, and the discipline needed to deliver complex work on time and to a high standard. You’ll remove blockers early, align teams across the business, and build capability so delivery doesn’t rely on any one person. What you’ll do * Own workload planning, capacity visibility, and priority setting across Mechanical and Electrical Fabrication. * Coordinate fabrication priorities with Production, Project Managers, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Stores and Facilities to support project delivery. * Identify blockers early (drawings, kits, materials, tooling, quality, engineering input, scheduling) and drive escalation and resolution. * Lead department planning and delivery so fabrication workflows support project milestones. * Build and manage department budgets by forecasting labour needs, tooling requirements, and resourcing constraints against schedules. * Maintain a clean, safe, and operationally ready workshop with the space, equipment, tooling, and systems the team needs. * Lead and support the team through clear expectations, practical guidance, and disciplined workflow habits. * Manage recruitment, onboarding, performance conversations, leave and wellbeing matters, and team development in line with company policies. * Strengthen role clarity across the department so technical leadership and day-to-day coordination are well supported. * Work with Quality and fabrication specialists to support welding compliance, inspection readiness, NCR handling, and lessons learned. * Improve workshop flow, kitting, tooling, handovers, documentation, and cross-team interfaces without creating unnecessary bureaucracy. * Reduce key-person dependency by improving documentation, building capability pathways, and strengthening succession coverage. You could be the one if you… * Have strong experience leading workshop, fabrication, manufacturing, production, or complex-build teams. * Hold a qualification in a mechanical engineering trade or related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience. * Understand fabrication environments and workshop operations well enough to make practical decisions and manage delivery risks. * Have experience with workforce planning, budgeting, and coordinating resources against deadlines and constraints. * Have led technical and trade-based teams, including recruitment, performance management, and capability development. * Are comfortable coordinating cross-functional delivery under time and budget pressure, and escalating issues early. * Can work full-time, site-based in a workshop environment. Nice to have * Experience in complex fabrication environments such as robotics, aerospace, automotive, animatronics, heavy fabrication, or similar project-based work. * Experience in reviewing designs with 3D modelling software (e.g. Solidworks). * Understanding of welding standards, weld qualification processes, and inspection regimes. * Exposure to electrical fabrication, control systems, or related technical workshop activity. * Forklift licence. * A friendly, human work environment and a culture of creatively minded, hardworking people who care deeply about their craft and the work they do. * Opportunities to continually learn, grow, and develop your skills alongside a widely experienced, cross disciplinary team. * Ways of working that genuinely support work life balance. We want you to love your work and your life outside of CTC. Your wellbeing matters to us. We provide access to a holistic assistance program supporting many areas of life and health, as well as an onsite gym. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) We care about the planet, and the people that live on it. We value inclusivity and belonging at CTC; only with a diverse and inclusive team that feels a genuine sense of belonging will we reach our vision. DEIB is a pillar of every project and initiative we work on. Our core values encourage us to show unwavering respect, keep an open mind and stay curious, and act with integrity and care in every aspect of our work. We welcome you to join our team regardless of background, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, age, or lived experience. Research shows candidates from neurodiverse and underrepresented backgrounds often only apply for roles if they meet all listed criteria. We hire based on experience and passion, so if this role interests you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every requirement. If you need reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process, please let us know. You’re also welcome to share your pronouns at any point.
