Description

A BIT ABOUT FLOCK

At Flock we do insurance very differently. We’re nearing 1 billion connected, insured miles.
Meaning our real-time, data-driven approach enables us to price connected vehicle insurance and assess risk better than ever before, giving fleet owners the insights they need to improve safety. We don’t just pay claims; we help our customers prevent them. We now insure hundreds of fleets in the UK, including the likes of JLR and Amazon, as well as fleets that work for DPD, Uber and Bolt.
We’ve now raised over £50M and our goal is to become the leading insurance company for connected and autonomous vehicles, and we’re building a world-class team to help us get there.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

Build the future engineering team here as we deliver AI-first products with measurable business impact. Create frameworks, data strategies & inclusive teams to create differentiable products in the insure-tech space.

WHAT WE THINK IS MOST EXCITING ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a startup, we value our ability to take the strategic opportunities which create innovative, unique and differentiable products. As Head of Engineering, you will create the frameworks, data strategies, metrics and team structures that ensure the engineering team measurably delivers on those business needs.
We have an AI-first approach across the company and the engineering team will move from using supporting tools to creating exciting new products based on the latest AI technologies. You’ll lead that transformation within a diverse team, while ensuring we stay true to our goals and deliver impactful data-driven products.

A LITTLE MORE ON WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

  • Work with the senior leadership team to understand the long-term business goals and clearly communicate this with the engineering team. Follow that communication with action to lead the team toward success against those goals.
  • Establish principles and practices that give the team a framework to deliver their work confidently, quickly and autonomously.
  • Align the team around a data strategy and metrics to measure their impact and their approach to LLMs within our product deliverables.
  • Encourage ownership of delivery and decision making within all levels of engineering to support risk taking and maintain momentum in the team.
  • Measure contributions beyond delivery. Establish and maintain engineering as a vanguard in innovation and impact within the broader company.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration, ensuring seamless integration between engineering, product, and data.
  • Create diverse and inclusive team structures to support both short and long term needs of the business.
  • Set expectations on how innovation, impact and maintainability of our tech stack should be balanced. Take action to ensure those expectations are met.
  • Develop a healthy feedback culture, ensuring continuous learning and improvement.
  • Use data and evidence to solve scaling challenges, from infrastructure to team dynamics.
  • Represent engineering at the leadership level, ensuring technical insights shape company strategy.
