Location: Hybrid, at least two days per week in our office in Vauxhall, London.
Working Pattern: Full-time
Salary: c. £100-120k
Oddbox is at the forefront of the fight against food waste, providing innovative subscription solutions that delight our customers while saving millions of kilograms of fresh produce from being unnecessarily discarded. As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Head of Engineering to lead our talented team, driving the next phase of our tech evolution.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Extensive experience with cloud-based infrastructures and enterprise-level architectures.
Understanding of how AI/ML can power growth. You’ll have an aptitude for adapting to new tech and rolling out cool things.
‍ Strong background in full-stack software development, with hands-on experience in languages including Python.
Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.
Demonstrated success in coaching and motivating a passionate tech team to deliver excellence

APPLICATION AND INTERVIEW PROCESS

Introductory call with people team (approx. 15 minutes)
Exploratory call with Director of Product, Technology & Data (approx. 30 minutes)
Structured technical interview and problem-solving assessment (1 hour)
Panel interview with key stakeholders and leadership team (approx. 1 hour)
Meet the team
Location – Hybrid-On average, you’ll spend two days each week in our Vauxhall office, working with other Oddboxers and seeking out the low-hanging fruit. (Is that a fruit pun?! Maybe. Or we could just be talking about our always fresh fruit bowl and snack cupboard.) You’ll need to visit our distribution centre in Croydon and packing facility in Birmingham a couple of times each year.

Responsibilities

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As our Head of Engineering, you will own the Tech Strategy that directly enables and drives our Product Strategy, reporting directly to Aoife, our Director of Product, Technology & Data.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Driving the selection and adoption of specific technologies, tools, and platforms with the Product team where appropriate. Able to prioritise ‘building-vs-buying’ parts of the tech stack, understanding where we should focus effort and where we should prioritise speed. Provide strategic advice to the Executive Team and Board on all technical matters.
  • Ensuring a sound delivery approach so that the infrastructure and architecture can support future growth and evolving user needs. Investigate and communicate what is technically feasible and how new features or products can be brought to market with the most impact for now and the future.
  • Owning the architectural patterns and principles adopted for building and deploying software that is flexible, scalable, and aligned with the long-term technology vision.
  • Facilitating an engineering team that is motivated and engaged, allowing the business to respond quickly to market demands. Is able to coach the team to achieve their goals. Has influence and impact in other parts of the organisation and can facilitate conversations around the right tooling to introduce to improve workflows, introducing technology to other aspects of the business.
  • Can input, understand and challenge engineering decisions - but to empower the team to make those decisions themselves. Has an understanding of what good looks like for a high-performing team of engineers and the ability to chart a course to get there
  • Identifying, communicating and creating mitigation strategies for risks.
