🚀 We’re hiring: Head of Engineering | Salsa Digital

Salsa Digital is looking for an experienced and respected Head of Engineering to lead the evolution of our engineering capability.

This is an opportunity to shape how a growing digital organisation engineers software — setting standards, strengthening technical capability, improving engineering quality and helping talented engineers do their best work.

You will lead across:

• Engineering standards and technical governance

• Architecture and technical decision-making

• Engineering quality, assurance and technical risk

• Drupal, frontend, cloud and DevOps

• CI/CD, automation and developer experience

• AI-enabled development and emerging technologies

• Capability development and technical leadership

You will work closely with our Practice Leads, Technical Leads and engineering teams to ensure we consistently deliver secure, scalable and maintainable digital platforms for government and enterprise customers.

And importantly, this isn't leadership through bureaucracy. We are looking for someone who brings practical engineering leadership, technical credibility and a genuine passion for developing people and improving how engineering works.

About you

You will ideally bring:

✔️ Proven experience leading an engineering function or significant engineering capability

✔️ A strong hands-on engineering background across modern web, cloud and DevOps

✔️ Experience establishing engineering and architecture governance across multiple teams

✔️ Practical experience with Drupal-based platforms

✔️ Strong understanding of secure, scalable and maintainable system design

✔️ Experience developing senior technical people and leading through Technical Leads and managers

✔️ Experience with engineering quality, CI/CD, automation and platform engineering

✔️ The ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders

Experience in Australian Government or other highly regulated environments would be highly regarded, as would experience with AWS/Azure, IRAP, ISM, Essential Eight, AI-enabled development, CKAN or Rules as Code.

🇦🇺 Australian citizenship is required, along with a Baseline security clearance or eligibility and willingness to obtain one.
