About the role At AGL, we’re bringing on tomorrow by leading the transition to a more sustainable energy future. We’re looking for a Head of Hydro to lead a critical portfolio of renewable assets across Victoria and New South Wales. This role will be based in Mt Beauty, reporting to the General Manager, Gas, Renewables & Storage, this role is accountable for the safe, compliant and commercially effective operation of AGL’s hydro fleet (17 assets including power stations, dams and civil infrastructure). You will set direction across operations, asset strategy and financial performance while leading a diverse, multi-disciplinary team and engaging with key stakeholders across industry and community. Mt Beauty sits at the gateway to Victoria’s alpine region, offering a rich outdoor lifestyle with year-round access to lakes, trails and mountains. We are open to discussing relocation support for the right candidate. What you’ll be doing: Lead safe, reliable and sustainable hydro operations, embedding strong HSE culture and performance Set and deliver asset strategy, operating plans and budgets (approx. $20M opex) Optimise asset performance, availability and lifecycle outcomes Deliver commercial outcomes through cost management and operational efficiency Lead organisational change, capability uplift and continuous improvement Manage risk, regulatory compliance and long-term planning (including climate impacts) Represent AGL with government, communities, regulators and industry stakeholders What you’ll bring: Leadership experience across complex, asset-intensive operations Strong understanding of regulatory and market environments (ideally NEM) Substantial experience in energy, power generation or infrastructure environments Commercial and financial acumen with accountability for large budgets A demonstrated commitment to safety leadership and HSE outcomes Effective stakeholder engagement and influencing skills #LI-SH1 Inclusion at AGL At AGL, we value diversity and welcome applicants from various backgrounds, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, individuals with disabilities, culturally diverse individuals, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
