We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Insights to manage our analytics and business intelligence function. This role is crucial in driving data-led decision-making, improving patient outcomes, and supporting strategic objectives across the organisation. You will be responsible for developing and delivering high-quality insights, ensuring that data is used effectively to shape healthcare services.
The ideal candidate is a data-driven manager with a strong background in analytics, business intelligence, and healthcare operations. They possess a unique blend of technical capability, deep analytical expertise, and leadership skills, enabling them to translate complex data into meaningful insights that drive decision-making, improve service quality, and enhance patient care.
They are highly adaptable, thrive in fast-paced environments, and are motivated by complex challenges. With exceptional communication skills, they can convey intricate information in an accessible way and influence decisions. A natural collaborator, they excel at building relationships across the organisation and with external partners. This individual is proactive in exploring new technologies and methodologies to maximise the impact of the insights function. The main duties of the job are based on the following key areas.
Developing the insights function - Leading the development to provide insights for a variety of purposes
Supporting decision-making - Ensuring data is used to make informed decisions.
Leading teams – directing teams of analysts and BI developers to provide value-added intelligence.
Communicating insights - Communicating insights to a range of internal and external stakeholders.
Building relationships - Building relationships with key trust colleagues to shape and answer key questions.
Setting standards - Setting standards and leading on the use of data and insights.
Managing the resources – ensuring right tools are in place to do the work
Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is the leading provider of health and social care services for people of all ages with mental ill-health and learning disabilities in Surrey and North East Hampshire. We also provide social care services for people with a learning disability in Croydon and ASD and ADHD assessment services in Hampshire.

Responsibilities

Qualifications required.
Qualified to Masters degree level in a relevant subject (Health Informatics, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Data Science, Statistics or related discipline) or equivalent relevant experience.
A further qualification in an analytical specialism.
Experience required.
Significant recent experience in senior business intelligence or data analytics role ideally within the healthcare sector or a similarly complex environment, with a strong understanding of healthcare operations and performance metrics.
Proven track record in leading and developing high-performing teams, fostering talent, mentoring, and driving a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and accountability.
Substantial experience in effectively using analysis, business intelligence and insights to inform policy and improve health outcomes, including a deep understanding of how to interpret complex data and translating it into actionable insights, evaluating its impact on trust performance.
Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex concepts and data insights in accessible language and influence decision-making at all levels.
Delivery management skills and knowledge of project methodologies, with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage risks and timelines, to drive results.
Expertise in advanced analytics methodologies/tools, data visualisation platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), statistical software, and performance management systems, with a solid grasp of NHS digital transformation initiatives.
Skilled in building strong cross functional working relationships, working closely with clinical, operational, and corporate teams to ensure insights align with and support their needs.
Strong critical thinking skills, resourceful and resilient, adept at navigating challenges and using data to drive solutions to improve patient outcomes and organisational efficiency.
Familiarity with healthcare systems, patient data, and NHS standards, policies, regulatory requirements, and quality improvement frameworks, with clinical experience being a plu
