Job Title: Head of Jafet Library Reference & Instruction Services Department: University Libraries Division: Jafet Library Section: Research and Instruction Services Grade: above grade 12 Basic Functions: Plans, coordinates, and leads the delivery of innovative, user-centered research, and instruction services that support teaching, learning, and research across the university. Oversees the provision of both quick and advanced research services in physical and virtual environments. Coordinates and develops library instruction and information literacy programs, while fostering strategic partnerships with academic departments and university support units. Contributes to the advancement of library services, technologies, and collections through collaborative and user-focused initiatives. The role also includes supervisory, administrative, and assessment responsibilities aimed at enhancing the overall user experience and supporting institutional priorities.   1.      Duties Performed: * Coordinates and supervises reference and research support services, including chat services and advanced consultations for faculty members, graduate students, and senior researchers.  * Develops and provides specialized research support in areas such as AI applications in research, systematic reviews, citation management, research data management, and bibliometrics.  * Plans, designs, and delivers instructional sessions, workshops, tutorials, and online learning materials that support information literacy and research skills.  * Develops customized research tools and resources while identifying and integrating emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in academic librarianship.  * Builds collaborative partnerships with faculty, academic departments, and campus support units to strengthen the integration of research and instructional services.  * Mentors, supervises, trains, and evaluates librarians and paraprofessional staff, while promoting professional development and continuous learning.  * Manages reference and audiovisual collections in collaboration with collection management staff.  * Assesses the effectiveness and impact of library services and implement improvements that enhance user experience, engagement, and service quality. * Performs other related duties as requested.     2.      Work Contacts: Frequent work contacts with faculty, staff, colleagues, library liaisons, and donors.     3.      Independence of Operation: Reports to the Associate University Librarian for Research and Academic Collaboration Services. Devises work methods according to broad guidelines, policies and professional standards.      4.      Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises the Research and Instruction Services Department staff.     5.      Physical Effort: Minimal physical effort.   6.      Work Conditions: Clean, quiet and pleasant.     7.      Minimum Requirements: * Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an accredited institution. * Minimum of seven years of experience in an academic library, with demonstrated expertise in research support, instruction, liaison, and outreach services. * Experience providing advanced research services, including systematic reviews, bibliometrics, citation management, and research data management is a plus. * Experience with educational technologies, digital tools, online learning platforms, and emerging technologies relevant to academic libraries and higher education is a plus. * Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively across departments, disciplines, and diverse stakeholder groups. * Demonstrated awareness of emerging trends and best practices in academic librarianship, with a willingness to learn, adapt to, and embrace new technologies and innovative approaches to service delivery. * Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively across departments, disciplines, and diverse stakeholder groups. * Strong communication, leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
