Description

We are a Charity, providing great quality, nutritious meals to children in schools throughout Southampton. We want to hear from enthusiastic people who really want to make a difference to the lunchtime experience of every child!
You would be working during all term times, Monday to Friday, and of course, the role is subject to your eligibility to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS check.

Experience:

  • Managing a Kitchen: 1 year (preferred
Responsibilities

A DRIVING LICENSE AND ACCESS TO YOUR OWN VEHICLE IS ESSENTIAL TO THIS ROLE, AS IS THE CONFIDENCE AND FLEXIBILITY TO TRAVEL TO DIFFERENT/NEW AREAS FREQUENTLY.

Key responsibilities include running the Swaythling kitchen from start to finish and supporting the team consisting of an Assistant Cook and the Catering Assistants in the absence of a Head of Kitchen. You’ll be planning, prepping and cooking meals to a set recipe for the children at lunchtimes as well as for any special functions.
You’ll need to have solid experience for this role in all things food related – cooking, baking, food prep and service.
You’ll also need to have at least a Level 3 certificate in food safety and a strong understanding (and experience of working with) of allergen foods.
Training is given in one of our training units, but ideally we are looking for a self-starter who can get stuck in, so preference for interviews will be given to those that have very similar experience as a cook within a similar school environment.
An existing valid Enhanced DBS is also very desirable!
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to undergo an enhanced DBS check, the cost of which is covered by the Charity if you pass probation.
We are actively seeking to increase diversity within our organisation and would greatly welcome interest from people of all genders, with direct experience of food poverty, from a black or minority ethnic background and/or with a disability.
