Key Skills & Experience:

  • Solicitor within at least 8 years’ PQE gained in-house and/or in private practice, with experience managing and developing direct reports.
  • A background in Infrastructure/PPP and/or experience in the telcoms or other highly regulated sectors would be advantageous.
  • Strong track record in consulting with, influencing and/or providing advice to, senior business leaders, managers and external stakeholders.
  • Results-oriented strategic thinker and planner, with a high level of integrity and ability to influence.
  • Ability to manage large caseloads (from long-term or strategic projects to fluid or urgent daily operational matters) efficiently and effectively including through effective delegation to direct reports, ensuring quality and timeliness of output.

Responsibilities

NBI is looking for an experienced Head of Legal to join its dynamic, fast-paced and collaborative team, reporting to the Chief Legal Officer. This is a high profile, commercial legal role. We are looking for someone with a proven successful leadership background within a high performing legal function. You will be responsible for directly influencing senior stakeholders and providing pragmatic advice on a variety of legal and regulatory issues. You will be providing a best practice legal service, ensuring robust compliance procedures and risk assessments are made in line with NBI’s group culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for all aspects of the legal function including managing a small team of direct reports, ensuring excellence in service delivery in terms of timely and quality advice and support.
  • Act as a trusted legal advisor by understanding the business, risk appetite, and NBP project commitments, providing clear, practical advice on strategic and operational matters.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, applying strong technical skills, effective communication strategies and stakeholder management to unlock complex matters.
  • Provide support to the Company Secretary, including preparation of materials for the boards and committees, investor management and ensuring timely filings.
  • Provide strategic advice on contentious and potentially contentious issues, supporting effective dispute avoidance and resolution strategies.
  • Ensure the delivery of timely, business-focused legal advice across multiple departments, ensuring legal documentation and compliance processes are in place and up to date.
  • Lead on the ongoing development and growth of the legal function, promoting excellence and delivering training and knowledge-sharing initiatives across the business.
  • Work proactively within the legal team and across the business to enhance operational processes, including their efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Be an ambassador for, and promote, the highest standards of corporate governance.
  • Support the business in monitoring and complying with Irish and EU legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline internal processes and introduce new tools to improve legal service delivery and efficiency.
