Description
The Bigger Picture At Andromeda Robotics, we’re not just imagining the future of human-robot relationships, we’re building it. Abi is the first emotionally intelligent humanoid companion robot, designed to bring care, conversation, and joy to the people who need it most. Backed by tier-1 investors and with customers already deploying Abi across aged care and healthcare, we’re scaling fast, and we’re doing it with an engineering-first culture that’s obsessed with pushing the limits of what’s possible. This is a rare moment to join: we’re post-technical validation, pre-ubiquity, and building out the team that will take Abi from early access to global scale. Our Values Deeply empathetic - Kindness and compassion are at the heart of everything we do. Purposely playful - Play sharpens focus. It keeps us curious, fast and obsessed with the craft. Relentlessly striving - With relentless ambition, an action bias and constant curiosity, we don’t settle. Strong when it counts - Tenacious under pressure, we expect problems and stay in motion to adapt and progress. United in action - Different minds. Shared mission. No passengers. What You’ll Do We are seeking a Head of Manufacturing who will build and scale the first humanoid robot manufacturing production facility in Australia. You will design the system that takes us from zero in-house manufacturing to a dependable engine producing over 1,000 robots per month. This is a hands-on builder role at the start. You will architect the first line, bring up suppliers, implement quality systems, and close the loop with field performance. As we scale, the role grows to include contract manufacturing, multi-site operations, and global post-sales support. This is a career-defining role for someone who thrives in ambiguity, moves fluidly between detail and strategy, and is energised by building the machine behind the machines. Your First 6 Months - Greenfield Build Manufacturing Strategy and Plan: Define build vs buy, capacity model, capex, and ramp plan to reach 1,000 robots per month. Facility and Line Bring-up: Design layout, stations, tooling plan, ESD and safety setup, material flow, work instructions, and takt time targets. Jigs and Fixtures: Design or source critical fixtures to guarantee repeatability and speed. Supply Chain Foundation: Source and qualify key suppliers, negotiate pricing and terms, implement dual sourcing, and establish inbound logistics and inventory policies. Quality System Seed: Implement incoming inspection, in-process checks, final testing, traceability, NCR and CAPA loops, and a baseline QMS aligned to ISO 9001. Data and Visibility: Define KPIs for OTD, yield, FPY, CT, WIP, and cost per unit. Stand up dashboards and daily tier meetings. Team Formation: Hire and coach the first manufacturing engineers and technicians. 6 Months and Beyond - Scale Up Ramp and Stabilise: Scale output toward 1,000 robots per month through line balancing, standard work, and lean improvements. Quality and Cost: Strengthen in-line QA, expand automated testing, and collaborate with engineering on cost-down and reliability initiatives. Planning and Systems: Tighten MRP, inventory accuracy, and supplier performance to ensure stable material flow and predictable lead times. Contract Manufacturing: Qualify and onboard CM partners; establish golden-line standards and audit cadence as production scales. Global Operations: Standardise documentation, training, and MES across sites while advancing ISO 9001 and CE/UL compliance. Field Feedback Loop: Integrate fleet telemetry and post-sales data into continuous product and process improvement. Ideally You Are passionate about the future of robotics and obsessed with building things that add up to something meaningful for the world. (See abi_humanoid on Instagram for inspiration). Have a bias for action and will learn and grow at an accelerated rate. Love working together as a team to push through hard challenges. Are empathetic and value collaboration, feedback, learning, and social bonds that cultivate a supportive and fulfilling work environment for the long run. Can self-manage and deliver results reliably. Are excited about tackling new challenges and consistently step up to meet them. Skills and Experience We encourage everyone to apply even if you only meet a subset of the following criteria, or are a specialist in one domain. We believe the right person will actively develop these skills as they grow with the team. 10 plus years in manufacturing or operations for complex electro-mechanical products. 5 plus years leading teams. Proven ramp experience from pilot to volume. Greenfield line or site bring-up strongly preferred. Supply chain depth across sourcing, negotiation, and planning. Experience de-risking critical components. Quality leadership including QMS, SPC where relevant, structured problem solving, and safety culture. Lean and CI toolkit with measurable results in CT, FPY, and cost per unit. Strong systems mindset. Comfortable with ERP or MRP, basic MES, and production analytics. Clear communicator. Builds alignment across hardware, software, product, finance, and customer teams. Bonus Points Experience in humanoid or mobile robotics manufacturing. Understand DFM and DFA for complex electromechanical assemblies. Knowledge of ISO 9001 implementation and internal auditing. Fast scaling hardware start-up experience. ERP or MRP implementation and BOM discipline at scale. Standing up and managing contract manufacturers. Safety certifications and compliance pathways for CE and UL. Battery systems and high current safety in production. Be part of a high-growth start-up from the early glory days with rapid growth opportunities. Opportunities to engage with customers and investors, travel, and public speaking. Opportunities to take on new challenges that provide exponential technical growth. Join a passionate and dedicated crew of engineers with a shared love of robotics. Make an outsized impact on the Australian robotics industry. The salary for this position may vary depending on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional benefits or components based on the specific role. Details will be provided if an employment offer is made. If you’re excited about this role but don’t meet every requirement, that’s okay—we encourage you to apply. At Andromeda Robotics, we celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Let’s build the future together. We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
