Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to work as Head of Mechanical Engineering in the UK’s largest water company. This role will head an industry leading Mechanical Engineering team in the Thames Water Above Ground Engineering to achieve Thames Water’s AMP8 ambitions and beyond. You will have the opportunity be part of the Above and Below Ground Engineering leadership team developing and influencing the effectiveness of the Engineering function.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING AS HEAD OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

  • You will be the recognised expert providing innovation, creativity and leadership to set the Mechanical Engineering standards and strategy, and influence functional strategy.
  • Sit as part of the technical leadership group providing technical oversight of high profile projects within the business
  • Proactively setting the direction of Mechanical Engineering within Thames Water
  • Provide in depth knowledge of how Mechanical Engineering and Safety Instrument Systems contributes to the business goals and a good understanding of the regulatory environment and commercial markets.
  • Confidently communicate and negotiate internally to the highest levels.
  • Lead, support and develop the Mechanical team within Thames Water
  • Overseeing Mechanical specific projects and provide technical direction within complex jobs
  • Keep an overview of our delivery partners and contractors providing strategic technical leadership

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING TO THE ROLE

  • You will be a recognised leader in mechanical engineering, educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline and ideally with professional chartership to a high level.
  • Understanding of the regulatory environment to achieve compliance with our engineering regulatory requirements.
  • Significant mechanical engineering experience which will include a considerable period working in the water industry.
  • Have extensive experience working with mechanical systems in water and wastewater treatment, ideally including pumps and pipework. sludge treatment and biogas plant systems.
  • Supportive leadership and communication skills both internally and externally.
  • Passionate about Engineering and continuous improvement.
  • Degree level or equivalent with professional chartership in your Engineering Discipline.
  • Be a proactive thinker and the ability to deal with complex issues.
