Head of NDE - Submarines
Full Time
Derby, Raynesway
Recognised as a key source of business critical NDE expertise, whose opinion and contribution is sought by seniors within the Business. Will be an expert with a broad knowledge of NDE and it’s application within the Business. Generates business benefits through the development and application of current and new technologies. Acts as the Capability Owner for NDE, developing the people, process and tools to meet current and future Business. Acts as a change agent, defining and championing the implementation of the future NDE strategy. Impact will be across the Business and wider enterprise, Ensures appropriate policies, standards and best practices are defined, shared and adopted.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Capability Owner for NDE - responsible for the development of people, process and tools to meet the current and future needs of the Business

  • Strategy - develop and pro-actively implement the NDE strategy for the Submarine Business

  • Capability Development: leads the development and application of current and new NDE-related technologies / capabilities

  • Act as integrator for cross-DBU technical issues.

  • Problem Solving: leads the resolution of new and emerging technical, compliance and business problems, integrating cross-functional business processes, using analytical processes and applying professional judgement

  • Collaboration: leads the Business’s NDE specialist taxonomy in terms of co-ordinating best practice and addressing lesson’s learnt. Represents the Business externally, at both a Corporate Capability and Enterprise level; ensuring the sharing of best practice.
  • Through the wider Corporate capability; work closely to review and develop the capabilities needed at Corporate level, specifically apprentice development.
  • Leadership: provides technical direction to peers and more junior professionals, within NDE
  • People Capability: responsible for the definition of NDE skills and knowledge; including the identification and development of training solutions.
  • People development: provides active mentoring
  • Standards Definition: participates with external authorities in the development of relevant policies, standards and best practices; ensures these are defined, shared and adopted within the group

  • Professionally qualified Engineer (UK minimum BEng degree or other national equivalent, higher degree preferred)
  • UK CEng (Chartered Engineer) or other national equivalent relevant to specialist subject area
  • Typically a member of relevant professional body/institute at Fellow level (or equivalent)
  • A deep understanding of specialist subject and proven ability to influence key decisions
  • Understanding of Intellectual Property and Export Control requirement
