The Head of Nursing provides strategic and operational leadership for the nursing workforce across the GP federation. This role is responsible for the effective management of nursing staff, including recruitment, appraisal, continuing professional development (CPD), and performance management. The postholder leads on the development and implementation of clinical policies and service improvements, ensuring high-quality, person -centred care.
They are clinically accountable for the delivery of nursing services, working collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to ensure integrated, safe, and effective care pathways. The role also carries responsibility for the management of budgets and physical resources related to nursing services, ensuring efficient and sustainable use of assets.
Leadership and Management
Provide strategic and operational leadership to the nursing workforce across the federation.
Lead on recruitment, induction, appraisal, and performance management of nursing staff.
Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous professional development (CPD).
Ensure effective workforce planning and succession planning.
Clinical Governance and Service Delivery
Ensure compliance with clinical governance frameworks, policies, and procedures.
Maintain clinical accountability for the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality nursing services.
Liaise with internal and external agencies to ensure integrated care pathways and service continuity.
Lead on the development and implementation of clinical policies and protocols.
Strategic and Operational Planning
Develop and implement nursing strategies aligned with organisational goals and national healthcare priorities.
Contribute to business planning and service transformation initiatives.
Monitor and evaluate service performance, identifying areas for improvement and innovation.
Resource and Budget Management
Liaise with leadership team with regards the nursing budget, ensuring effective use of financial and physical resources.
Support procurement and maintenance of clinical equipment and supplies.
Ensure compliance with financial governance and reporting requirements.
Formed in 2016, NCGPA is a GP federation made-up of over 30+ member practices within the Nottingham city area, covering a population of over 400k patients.
We believe the best way to support general practice is through partnership and collaboration. By combining knowledge, sharing knowledge, and pooling resources, we can help practices become more resilient to the challenges they face.
From our headquarters in Nottingham city centre, we directly run four practices from a centralised hub, support the employment of staff in our PCN teams, and operate City Wide Services. We assist with finance, HR, communications, and logistical support so frontline staff can reserve their time and energy for helping patients.
The day to day running of the company is through a Senior Management team, comprising of the Chair, Secretary, and Medical Director along with the company’s Chief Officer. They work alongside our Board to shape our future direction with the valued input from our member practices. Between them, they have a wealth of experience of delivering quality care to patients in Nottingham and share a unified ambition to create a bright future for general practice.
