HEAD OF PEOPLE

Salary: £40k–£60k
Hours: Full time, Mon–Fri (37.5 hrs)
Location: Remote + travel to services near Wakefield (1–2 days/wk)
We’re Autograph – a growing care group with 250 colleagues and big ambitions. We’ve laid the foundations of our HR function, and now we’re looking for a hands on Head of People to take it to the next level!
This role is perfect for an established HR professional, or someone who’s ready for their next step in HR leadership – someone who can roll their sleeves up, embed the processes we’ve built, and help shape our culture of wellbeing, engagement, and retention.

Responsibilities
  • Lead People Strategy: Develop and execute a people strategy that enhances culture, employee engagement, wellbeing, and performance across the group.
  • Staff Engagement: Drive a values-led culture that supports high performance and strengthens connection among teams.
  • Partnership: Act as a strategic partner to the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to organisational direction from a people and culture perspective.
  • Talent & Workforce Planning: Oversee the recruitment and development of a HR team to support strategic workforce planning, effective talent acquisition, and onboarding.
  • Recruitment and Retention: Oversee and support the homes to optimise the employee lifecycle – from identifying talent, the recruitment process, inductions, staff development and retention – ensuring every colleague feels valued and heard.
  • Leadership Capability: Design and lead leadership development programmes to build internal talent pipelines.
  • HR Best Practice: Ensure consistent and legally compliant HR practices and policies across all homes.
  • Employee Relations: Provide guidance on complex ER matters, upholding fairness and adherence to employment law, working with external counsel where appropriate.
