POSITION OVERVIEW

The Head of Procurement is a strategic leadership role reporting directly to the CEO, responsible for developing and executing comprehensive procurement strategies across all MedicinesRus Chemist pharmacy locations. This role leads the centralized procurement function that strategically sources and manages pharmaceutical, retail, and professional service products while leveraging collective buying power to optimize costs, maintain supplier relationships, and ensure optimal inventory availability aligned with customer demand and store profiles.

EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Relevant business discipline
• IT Degree
• Current pharmacist registration (highly preferred)
• Professional procurement or supply chain management qualifications (desirable)

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 5 years procurement or supply chain management experience
• Proven track record in pharmaceutical or healthcare retail procurement
• Experience in building and leading centralized procurement functions
• Demonstrated success in strategic sourcing and supplier negotiation
• Leadership experience managing cross-functional teams

Strategic Leadership & Planning

• Develop and implement enterprise-wide procurement strategies aligned with company objectives and growth plans
• Build and lead a centralized procurement capability across all pharmacy locations
• Establish procurement governance frameworks, policies, and procedures
• Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic sourcing initiatives and cost optimization opportunities

Strategic Sourcing & Negotiation

• Negotiate and secure optimal wholesale pricing across all pharmaceutical and retail product categories
• Leverage combined buying power to maximize discounts and secure favorable terms
• Establish preferred supplier arrangements and volume-based pricing structures
• Conduct regular market analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and emerging trends

Pricing Strategy & Management

• Develop and implement retail pricing strategies across all product categories
• Set competitive yet profitable price points based on comprehensive market analysis
• Manage promotional pricing and special offers with consistent implementation
• Ensure pricing compliance with PBS requirements and industry regulations

Supplier Relationship Management

• Build and maintain strategic relationships with key pharmaceutical and retail suppliers
• Manage ongoing communication with sales representatives and supplier stakeholders
• Develop supplier performance metrics and conduct regular reviews
• Resolve supplier issues promptly to ensure continuous product availability

Inventory & Product Range Optimization

• Ensure stores maintain optimal stock levels using just-in-time inventory principles
• Develop store-specific stocking strategies based on sales patterns and customer demographics
• Implement inventory controls to minimize waste from expired products
• Align product selection with customer demand and individual store profiles
• Identify and introduce new products with high sales potential

Technology & Systems Management

• Oversee and optimize POS and Buy It Right procurement systems
• Ensure data integrity across all procurement platforms
• Drive process improvements through technology adoption
• Train staff on proper utilization of procurement technology

Financial Management

• Manage procurement budgets and ensure adherence to financial targets
• Optimize working capital through strategic procurement practices
• Contribute to overall group profitability through cost-effective sourcing
• Develop and monitor financial KPIs for procurement activities
