Company: Marsh Risk Description: We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the Marsh Risk Pacific team as the Head of Risk and Control Advisory. This role will be based in either Melbourne or Sydney. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office. Reporting to a member of the Executive Leadership Team, Marsh Risk Pacific, this role is accountable for delivering a strategic and integrated approach to operational risk across the organization. Leadership of the Risk and Control Advisory team, which includes the Line 1 Risk Team and the Complaints Team; and maintaining effective relationships with Line 2 Risk and Compliance, Audit and business leaders of Marsh Risk Pacific will also be key to success in the role. The role is also responsible for guiding a matrix team of Risk Champions across the Pacific Region. This role is critical in continuing to enhance the operational maturity of our risk culture, which focuses on keeping the business safe for the benefit of our clients, colleagues and shareholders. This will be achieved in large part through the operationalisation of Risk and Compliance Frameworks and policies, which are defined by Line 2 Compliance, and supporting the design, testing and operational effectiveness of key controls within the Marsh Risk Pacific businesses. We will count on you to: Support the organisation in relation to risk oversight, enterprise risk management and challenge for the delivery of the strategic plan for the future state of Marsh Risk Pacific. Actively participate as business representative in Risk Forums, Project Steering Committees and other key meetings and challenging decisions from an operational risk perspective. Support the Line 1 Risk team in engaging senior management consistent with the “three lines of defence” model, providing pro-active, reliable and relevant risk and control advice to address business needs, manage issues and promote the interests and strategic objectives of Marsh Risk Pacific. Oversight the Complaints Management team. Oversee operationalisation of the Marsh Pacific Risk Management Framework, including Risk Management Forum, risk profiling, and risk reporting for Executive and relevant Boards and Committees. Support the strengthening of risk maturity within the business by driving a strong risk-aware culture through training, communication and processes. Enable the business to operate effectively within the applicable regulatory requirements, Industry code and internal risk appetite. Maintain and enhance the business’s risk and compliance framework (policies, procedures, tools) in line with changing regulatory environments, internal standards/policy and industry best practice. Assist with breaches and incidents and ensure timely resolution, improvement to control environment and compliance assessments. Ensure appropriate controls and procedures are maintained and adhered to via proactive control testing. Identify and update gaps in controls and procedures and work with the business to ensure compliance. Management and oversight of business risk management in key areas such as CPD, Fit and Proper requirements and mandatory learning monitoring . Providing risk advisory services and practical solutions in a number of different areas including cyber assessments, tender responses and client documentation. Third Party Provider (TPP) Assessments – Business case review, co-ordination of Committee Approval Drive progressive adoption of the GRC System (‘FRANK’) through promoting awareness and providing guidance and support. Act as a risk partner to business leaders, to identify, assess, monitor and report key risks associated with broking, insurance operations and strategic initiatives. Act as a strategic risk advisor for business transformation and change initiatives (e.g. new product launch, partnerships, operating model changes, digital and technology etc.) Building effective working relationship with Line 2 and Line 3 functions. Activating the ‘risk’ component of regional Risk Champions Influence a strong risk culture across the Marsh Risk Pacific business by role modelling risk aware decision making and providing risk expertise to the Executive Leadership team and key risk owners across the business. Support the definition and implementation of the target state of the Line 1 Risk and Control Advisory function. Mentor, develop and retain top-tier talent, fostering a high-performance culture. What you need to have: Tertiary qualifications in a business-related discipline. Risk, Legal or Compliance experience (10+years), ideally from an insurance background. Proven leadership in risk management within complex, multi-geography insurance or financial services environments. Experience operating within the Australian insurance regulatory regime (APRA, ASIC, Corporations Act, AML/CTF etc.). Extensive experience engaging with Boards, Executive Committees, and regulators. Strong understanding of enterprise risk management frameworks and risk governance best practice. Proven track record of evolving risk practices and driving continuous improvement. Tertiary qualification and/or industry specific qualification such as a business, law degree or other equivalent university qualification. Excellent people leadership with a bias to coaching and development, and an ability to set the vision for the team and broader business as it relates to operational risk and controls. Excellent stakeholder management skills, both internally and externally, with a focus on collaboration, an ability to influence and achieve outcomes independent of reporting lines.
