From the moment a seed is planted through to harvest, crops need to be protected from weeds, insects and diseases as well as droughts and floods, heat and cold. Syngenta Crop Protection is headquartered in Switzerland. Job Description The Head of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs will lead the local FTO & sustainability strategy for Syngenta crop protection and Syngenta Seeds to protect and enable current and future business in light of societal expectations. The strategy will span sustainable and responsible business activities (stewardship), internal and external communications, government and public affairs, stakeholders’ management and will work closely with the Country General Manager to support the business growth and change management. The SCA Head will be a member of the Marketing Leadership Team and will work closely with colleagues in other functions, in particular Regulatory and Development to deliver positive business outcomes. The SCA Head will be part of the extended AMEA SCA LT and will work closely with regional colleagues to ensure a coordinated strategy for Syngenta Indonesia. Accountabilities: Licence to Operate Create and execute a proactive country Sustainability and Corporate Affairs strategy. Map and manage key FTO issues in partnership with Regulatory and advise the business on mitigation or enhancement strategies. Represent Syngenta with high-level Government stakeholders, build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders. Work in partnership with NGOs and academia to develop cooperation programs on critical societal and environmental issues. Represent Syngenta and take a leadership role in local industry associations to advance Syngenta’s interests. Manage external consultants. Deliver pro-active thought leadership initiatives with key government or civil society stakeholders. Identify and develop partnerships with key organizations (NGOs, IGOs, government agencies, value chain partners) to promote Syngenta’s thought leadership agenda in support of the business and the global sustainability priorities. Employee Engagement and Culture Oversee the development of internal communications strategy for stakeholders, including employee engagement and change management. Oversee communication and engagement activities in support of organizational change activity, and the implementation of key regional internal and external communications projects. External Communications Establish and maintain a media network (journalists, trade organizations, magazines) across key national and trade media. Ensure the development of proactive and reactive media management strategies to be applied consistently across the business in Indonesia. This activity is supported by a dedicated headcount. Leadership Budget responsibility for Indonesia Sustainability and Corporate Affairs, defining budget proposals in line with business priorities. People responsibility – managing the Indonesia Sustainability and Corporate Affairs team to execute on the strategy. Develop capabilities of the country leadership to perform (engagement, communication, etc.) at their best through training, coaching and mentoring. Develop and manage training programs for key business leaders as required to support the strategy (e.g. media training, presentation skills training) Qualifications Bachelor/ Master’s degree; professional qualification 10+ years’ experience working in Government, political parties, NGOs, public affairs agencies or in-house public affairs roles. Good understanding of the political, social, and cultural complexity and diversity in Indonesia Knowledge of food and agriculture policy issues. Strong knowledge of and background in advocacy and public policy, and strong network of Government stakeholders (in particular in the Ministry of Agriculture, Health and Environment). Understanding of the local political and media landscape. Previous experience working with media. Strong business and commercial acumen. Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others. Must be flexible and demonstrate strong judgment/decision-making skills. Experience dealing with senior-level internal and external stakeholders, including business leaders, Government officials and media. Ability to understand complex issues, summarize them and communicate them in simple, effective ways for internal and external customers. Ability to work within international teams across different geographies. Maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity.
