GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Center Manager, the Kitchen Manager will work to ensure that all aspects of the nutrition component meet or exceed the requirements of The Head Start Performance Standards, Georgia Bright from the Start: Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) Rules and Regulations, United States Department Of Agriculture (USDA), Child and Adult Care Food Learning Program (CACFP) and Tallatoona CAP, Inc. and develop a team approach in collaboration with the Kitchen Assistant.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be able to read and write effectively.
Must have the ability to plan and organize.
Must have access to a vehicle, a valid driver’s license, good driving record and maintain adequate liability insurance.
Must be able to attend required meetings and trainings.
Must be able to lift 40 pounds.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of high school education (diploma) or GED.
  • Two years training in meal planning and preparation is preferred.
  • Possess knowledge of food service and menu planning.

Responsibilities

Utilize a 5-week cycle menu to purchase and receive food stock to prepare meals.
Purchase food according to agency directives.
Responsible for preparing and serving food in accordance with established USDA regulations and agency directives.
Ensures accurate meals, snacks and utensils are prepared for family style eating.
Must maintain kitchen area, lunchroom and storage area in a clean sanitary condition at all times in order to maintain a Health Department Inspection score of 95 or greater.
Must prepare reports as required by agency and USDA requirements.
Supervise daily operation of the kitchen (food preparation and cleanup).
Maintain accurate inventories as requested.
Provide monthly menus to teachers to send home to parents.
Have ingredients ready for teachers to do nutrition activities.
Maintain nutrition and other requirements on Bulletin Board.
Provide for special dietary needs of children with disabilities.
Must meet or exceed monthly Quality Assurance Reviews.
Reports all needs related to service area delivery to the Center Manager.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
