Position Title: Head Start Teacher Reports To: Education Supervisor / Director of Operations Classification: Full Time / Part Year / Non-Exempt Summary/Objective: This position is responsible for providing instructional experiences for the preschool child for adequate development in the social, emotional, physical, and educational processes. Teacher will possess knowledge and understanding of early childhood development, develop appropriate goals and objectives, and collaborate with the Teacher Assistant and plan together. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement preferred. Other bachelor's degree concentrations may be considered with early childhood experience. Essential Functions: Daily Activities Plans activities that support progress of each individual child using the designated curriculum. Assure that room arrangement meets the developmental needs of all children. Maintain a safe and sanitary indoor and outdoor environment. Implements effective classroom management strategies. Plan outcomes, transitions in classroom, and implements activities for outdoor learning environment. Other duties as assigned. Family Partnership Plans and implements transitions from Early Head Start or other setting to Head Start and from Head Start into kindergarten or other setting. Works in partnership with the families, special education team, and management members in the development and implementation of the child's individual education plan. Actively communicates with families to ensure every child's success. Screening and assessment results are shared with families, staff, and partners. Confers with families; refer child and family concerns to appropriate partners and staff. Documentation Obtain all necessary permissions and documentation on each child. Maintain individual child's portfolios. Utilize agency software to timely and accurately input data and generate reports used for tracking and follow-up. Assess present level of development towards child learning outcomes /standards. Competencies: Highly proficient communication skills; oral and written. Demonstrates excellent organizational skill and attention to detail. Excellent time management. Knowledge and understanding of issues related to individuals and families in poverty. Ability to maintain client and organizational confidentiality. Builds relationships based on mutual trust and rapport; all issues are approached with a win-win attitude that respects the dignity of all parties. Actions and statements of staff, as a representative of the agency, promote, and progress the agency mission. Conveys a clear understanding of the organization's vision. Demonstrates agency and program values in job performance. Staff has a general knowledge of roles and responsibilities of other positions within the program. Professional knowledge, skills, and attitudes are enhanced by the utilization of opportunities and resources available. Meets schedules deadlines and performs routine tasks with minimal supervision. Possess and maintains the necessary skill level in technology systems and software required to perform individual job duties.
