What you will accomplish with us As a Head Underwriter, you'll be at the heart of our mission. The main responsibilities include: Underwriting quality and risk Assessment Contributing to maintaining and improving the quality of underwriting by reviewing complex files and offering guidance on medical, non-medical and financial assessments Conducting quality controls, participating in audit processes and supporting continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the accuracy and consistency of decisions Providing expert assessments for contestable, post-issue or litigation-related cases, ensuring that decisions are well supported and defensible Rules development and improvement of processes Evaluating current underwriting rules and recommending updates based on market trends, observations from claims data, business needs and new medical or financial considerations Collaborating with Actuarial, Claims, Reinsurance, Technology and Distribution partners to ensure alignment and consistency of rules and processes Innovation and modernization of underwriting practices Supporting the evolution of underwriting automation systems by contributing to the design, improvement and prioritization of rules Participating in initiatives related to new technologies, analytics and digital capabilities that improve underwriting efficiency and business quality Keeping up to date with underwriting innovations and contributing to the adoption of modern tools and practices Collaboration, training and knowledge transfer Acting as a resource for underwriters across Canada by providing advice, training and support on complex cases and best practices Contributing to educational content, presentations and initiatives aimed at enhancing underwriting expertise across the organization Providing feedback to improve team performance, consistency of decisions and adherence to quality expectations What could fast-track your success in this role We are seeking a candidate who: Is recognized for their strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex medical and financial information Stands out for their ability to clearly explain technical concepts to colleagues with varying levels of expertise Is recognized for their ability to organize, prioritize and navigate in complex environments Demonstrates interest in innovative approaches, the evolution of underwriting methodologies and technological solutions Has a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in individual underwriting The FALU and FLMI designations are assets Has experience working with reinsurers in complex or non-standard financial scenarios, and experience working with actuarial, data science or technology teams to develop rules or improve systems (asset) Has an intermediate level of English, as they will be required to attend meetings in English and communicate by email and phone with internal English-speaking partners on a daily basis Why you will enjoy working with us A work environment where learning and development merge with a collective pursuit of excellence.
