Description The Head Varsity Football Coach is responsible for overseeing the Wheaton Academy football program, ensuring competitive excellence, positive community representation, and strong leadership of the coaching staff. The coach also fosters the spiritual and athletic development of players. Requirements 1. Coaching: Develop and implement the football program’s overall coaching strategy and vision. Oversee spiritual discipleship and leadership development for players at all program levels. Provide daily coaching for the varsity team, including practice planning and game preparation. Manage and mentor all assistant coaches. Lead team devotions regularly throughout the season. Partner with the Athletic Director in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and developing coaches. 2. Communication: Maintain regular communication with the Athletic Director and athletic department staff. Oversee God-honoring communication with parents, players, and parent volunteers. Coordinate with the Sports Information Director to keep social media and the website current. Communicate with prospective players referred by Admissions. 3. Program operations: Manage program finances and budget. Coordinate with the Athletic Trainer for player health and safety. Organize team excursions, community service, and school service activities. Support college recruiting efforts for players. Plan and oversee summer camp operations. Utilize required technology tools to perform assigned duties. 4. Represent Wheaton Academy in conference meetings and IHSA-related activities as assigned by the Athletic Director. 5. Ensure compliance with conference and IHSA rules and regulations. Qualifications The Head Varsity Football Coach wholeheartedly accepts the Educational Philosophy and Mission of Wheaton Academy as outlined in the Statement of Faith and is committed to upholding them. The coach is expected to live a Christian lifestyle and maintain a Protestant church affiliation whose core beliefs align with the school’s Protestant Statement of Faith. As a qualification for this position, the coach affirms being a “born-again” Christian who knows Jesus Christ as Savior. The Varsity Football Coach must demonstrate spiritual maturity and serve as a Christian role model, reflecting the principles of I Timothy 4:12 in character and conduct, both within and beyond the school environment (Luke 6:40). This individual should exemplify discernment, dignity, respect, and Christ-centered living, setting a positive example for students, parents, and colleagues. The ideal candidate brings collegiate playing experience and coaching background, with a strong understanding of both offensive and defensive positions. This individual demonstrates proven leadership in guiding teams and programs toward achieving strategic goals, whether in coaching or other professional settings.
