We value humility, the pursuit of excellence, self-discipline, the receptivity to coaching, practical wisdom, and a strong aptitude for engaging with students. Requirements The Headmaster position requires at least a bachelor’s degree with Master’s Degree or PhD preferred. Ascent Classical Academies seeks a leader with significant experience in classical liberal arts education and school leadership, along with 5 years or more classroom experience in a classical setting. Additionally, this leader must possess exceptional organizational skills and experienced management skills. Candidates must pass a background check as required by state law. Position Specifics The Headmaster of a classical academy is entrusted with the full leadership of the school – academic, cultural, and institutional – in service of an education ordered toward truth, goodness, and beauty. This role requires a steady, mission-driven leader capable of guiding a school with clarity of purpose, operational competence, and long-term vision. Finishing its second year of operation, the school stands at an important point of consolidation and growth. While no longer a new founding effort, the campus has experienced significant leadership transition in its early years. The incoming Headmaster is therefore charged with bringing coherence, consistency, and stability to the life of the school, strengthening its foundations and positioning it for durable success. Central to this work is the Headmaster’s responsibility for the school’s academic and cultural integrity. A confident command of the Western and American intellectual tradition – particularly the Great Books and thinkers that inform classical education – is essential. This philosophical grounding must be evident in curriculum oversight, faculty leadership, and the formation of a school culture marked by intellectual seriousness, moral clarity, and shared purpose. The long-term health of the school depends upon sustained enrollment growth and public confidence. The campus currently operates in a temporary facility, and the procurement of a permanent home is directly tied to the school’s ability to demonstrate stability, excellence, and demand. The Headmaster must therefore serve as both chief educator and chief ambassador, clearly articulating the school’s mission and value to families and the broader community. Faculty recruitment, development, and retention will be a critical priority. The Headmaster will lead hiring efforts beginning in early spring 2026 in close collaboration with the Home Office staff, ensuring that faculty are well-formed in both classical pedagogy and the school’s mission. Initial interviews may be conducted virtually for candidates relocating from out of state. As soon as reasonably possible, the Headmaster is expected to become a visible and trusted leader in the local community. Through purposeful outreach, cultivation of local partnerships, and consistent engagement with families and civic leaders, the Headmaster will help establish the school not only as an academic institution, but as a respected and integral part of the community it serves. Benefits Employee-only coverage for group medical, dental, and vision plan; dependent coverage available Health savings account with employee contributions Short- and long-term disability and life insurance plans Retirement investment account with employer match Voluntary benefit options Ascent Classical Academies seeks faculty members with strong content backgrounds and does not require a teaching license. Please contact Careers@AscentClassical.org with any additional questions. Visit https://ascentclassical.org/careers for more information on Ascent Classical Academies’ mission and vision, benefits, and to submit an application. Applications will require a cover letter, unofficial transcripts, and a 400-600 word educational philosophy statement relevant to the value of a liberal, classical education.
Responsibilities
The Headmaster is entrusted with the full leadership of the school—academic, cultural, and institutional—with a focus on bringing coherence, consistency, and stability to the campus during a period of consolidation and growth. A central responsibility is maintaining the school’s academic and cultural integrity while serving as the chief educator and ambassador to ensure enrollment growth and public confidence.
