POSITION SUMMARY:

The Xaa-wan’-k’wvt Early Learning Program, (XELP) Classroom Aide will provide support through classroom and playground supervision of children, preparation of materials for learning activities, participate and guide children’s learning activities. Assist in providing a safe and sanitary environment for every child. The XELP Classroom Aide will participate in regular communication with staff concerning children and with parents/guardians as directed by the XELP Teacher. Qualified American Indian Preference applies.
All Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation employees must submit to a background check and abide by all Tribal, federal, and state laws. All employees must comply with Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation drug free workplace policy and will be subject to pre-employment, random, for-cause, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing. Current physical exam, tuberculosis test clearance, Hepatitis B Series I, II, III complete. Qualified American Indian Preference applies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in classroom, field trips, meals, playground supervision and emergency drills.
  • Routinely documents and communicates observations and progress with program staff.
  • Helps promote communication, play and socialization between classmates.
  • Performs required caregiver activities for children as necessary (i.e. feeding, toileting, dressing, etc.).
  • Implement behavior management techniques and monitors progress and effectiveness as directed by the XELP Teacher.
  • Assists staff in implementing culturally and developmentally appropriate curriculum and individualized goals for the children to promote growth and learning in all developmental areas.
  • Encourage parental involvement in the program and maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians in a professional and respectful manner, with confidentiality in mind.
  • Attends Tolowa Dee-ni’ Wee-ya’ class and apply it in the workplace.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

All Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation employees are expected to have general knowledge of typical office technologies such as computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and typical office software.

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE IS LISTED BELOW:

Knowledge of Early Childhood Education.
Knowledge to facilitate groups of children ages 0-5.
Knowledge of regional and cultural customs and values.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

All employees should have customer service skills, interpersonal skills and good communication skills. All employees should have the ability to manage their time and organize their work to ensure efficient performance. In addition, all employees should have the ability to follow policy, procedure and instructions, actively communicate with their supervisors to ensure understanding and manage their work accordingly. Finally, all employees should have the ability to understand and manage citizen confidentiality.

JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS AND ABILITIES ARE LISTED BELOW:

Minimum Requirements: meets or exceeds 1302.91 45 CFR 1302.47

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • 1 year Experience working in a center or with groups of children ages 3-5 years old.
  • Have CDA within 1 year
  • CPR and First Aid within 60 days.
  • Mandated Reporter certification with 60 days.
  • Valid state issued driver’s license and/or the ability to obtain a California or Oregon driver’s license. Must be insurable on the Tribe’s insurance policy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Use hands and arms to operate office or field equipment.
  • Sit more than half the workday.
  • Stand and/or walk less than half the workday.
  • Bend, stretch, twist, crouch and/or reach
  • View electronic monitors for prolonged periods of time.
  • Use hands and arm for repetitive motion tasks consistently for more than one hour at a time.
  • Lift or carry unaided less than 50 pounds.
  • Push or pull using up to moderate force.
  • See and hear with normal acuity.
