Description:

Provide advice, guidance and instruction on health and safety, and security
management to all Trust employees in order to minimise risk, meet statutory
obligations, and achieve high safety and security standards.
To promote a proactive and positive health and safety culture across the Trust so that risks to staff, visitors and patients can be identified and appropriately managed.
It is essential that the post holder is an ambassador for the LAS and role models the Trust core values of Caring, Respect and Teamwork at all times.
The post holder will deliver Health & Safety related advice and support in line with current regulation, legislation (including Policies and Procedures), strategic objectives, priorities and target plans directly to Departmental/Sector Senior Leaders and Managers, Heads of Departments and other staff that have Health & Safety responsibility within their Sector of responsibility.
They will provide technical and specialist advice and support including auditing management systems to all staff across departments and sectors within their area of responsibility.
They will require strong motivational and persuasive skills in order to assist with Trust compliance against legislation, standards, internal policies and procedures, operational procedures and safe systems of work
Communication
Influence, persuade and motivate staff at all levels within the organisation to ensure that an understanding of the importance of, and their role in, Health and Safety management.
Work collaboratively with Directorate and Departmental Managers and fellow Health, Safety & Security Team members to ensure that effective and efficient Health & Safety advice is delivered and correctly implemented across the Trust, this could involve complex “crossover” interests and issues such as adverse incidents.
Provide advice, information, motivation and support in relation to complex Health & Safety issues to members of staff at all levels via different mediums. This information may be contentious and require interpersonal and persuasive skills to overcome objective barriers in
relation to changing existing practices.
Communicate with staff, visitors, in a form and manner which is consistent with their level of
understanding, culture, background and preferred ways of communicating. As well as excellent general communication skills (oral and written).
Establish communication routes and develop working relationships both within the
organisation amongst staff of all grades and with key external stakeholders.
Demonstrate tact, diplomacy and empathy as well as the ability to motivate, reassure and
overcome barriers to understanding.
Deal effectively and compassionately with all matters relating to supporting staff who have been exposed to accidents/incidents at work.
