As a health and safety coordinator on Pomerleau’s construction health and safety team, you will be responsible for implementing the activities planned in the prevention program framework for one or more large-scale building and infrastructure construction projects - ranging from $1.5 million to over $1 billion. You’ll have the opportunity to support all site personnel. You will actively participate in the planning, organization and control of all site activities, with the aim of eliminating health and safety hazards at source, in collaboration with the Health & Safety Manager, the Superintendent(s) and/or Foreman(s) of our organization and those of our partners.

  • Ensure compliance with the safety standards required by the project’s framework prevention program.
  • Participate in the development and updating of the prevention program for the construction site.
  • Monitor the implementation and operation of mechanisms for coordinating employers’ activities on the construction site.
  • Identify situations that may be hazardous and take proactive action.
  • Inspect workplaces.
  • Ensure that workers are aware of the types of risks associated with their work.
  • Receive accident reports and investigate events that caused or could have caused an accident.
  • Accompany the inspector during inspection visits.
  • Be the point of reference for workers and supervisors on health and safety matters on the construction site.
  • Order work to be stopped if the situation requires it.
  • Participate in the construction site committee and write the minutes.
  • Ensure compliance with partners’ prevention programs.
  • Prepare and complete various OHS reports, documents, and statistics.
  • Issue notices of non-compliance and follow up on them.
  • Conduct OHS orientations for workers on the construction site.
  • Ensure that inspections of construction equipment and machinery comply with the requirements of the framework prevention program and/or the manufacturer’s manual.
  • Cooperate during visits by the CNESST and other organizations that may visit the site.
  • Collaborate with the Health and Safety Representative (HSR).
  • Compile statistics and report them monthly.
  • Participate in various meetings dealing with OHS.

This role could be for you if you have

  • Post-secondary education in health and safety considered an asset
  • Hold a certificate or attestation recognized by the Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the construction sector in a health and safety role
  • Experience and knowledge of construction projects
