HOURS OF WORK:

40 hours per week - Monday to Friday 1pm - 9pm (Some flexibility can be given on both sides if required with working hours to be discussed at interview)
The successful candidate will be willing to cover night shifts where the Health and Safety Manager requires.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

David Wood Foods is seeking a Health and Safety Coordinator to join our team in Sheerness. You will report into the site Health and Safety Manager and be responsible for ensuring the safety of our employees and customers by implementing and monitoring the company’s safety policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a safety role, preferably in manufacturing or food processing.
Proof of right to work will be required at interview stage.

EDUCATION:

  • Good general education with minimum GCSE C or equivalent in English and Math’s
  • MUST have NEBOSH general certificate
    Experience: Previous experience in a safety role preferred, preferably in manufacturing or food processing. Must have knowledge and experience with PUWER.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced.
  • Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take into account all relevant hazards.
  • Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
  • Ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation.
  • Prepare health and safety strategies and develop internal policies.
  • Keep records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements.
  • Record incidents and accidents and produce statistics for managers.
  • Ensure training targets are met and maintained in accordance with current legislation
  • Lead in-house training with managers and employees about Health & Safety issues/risks, and Food Safety.
  • Liase with department managers to analyse & identify staff training and development needs, and deliver out training programmes to suit.
  • Participate in the co-ordination, development and delivery of the company induction programme for new employees, and delivering mandatory training in order for them to carry out their duties.
  • Identify and source training funding from various funding streams.
  • Advise on a range of specialist areas i.e. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safe guarding machinery and occupational diseases.
  • Managing emergency procedures (i.e. fire alarm drills, administering first-aid) and organizing emergency teams such as first-aiders/fire marshalls.
  • Conduct monthly Health & Safety meetings.
  • Offering general health & safety advice to all employees.
  • SEDEX – Maintain a system for compliance in accordance with the Ethical Trade Initiative (ETI) base code requirements.
