We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Health and Safety Coordinator to join our People team in Langley, BC.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Health & Safety, you will be responsible for supporting health and safety compliance across offices and retail stores and banners within Pattison Food Group. In this role, you will support alignment with regulatory requirements, collective agreements, and company policies across multiple provinces and territories.

You will be responsible for:

  • Liaising with external regulatory bodies such as provincial and federal government officials to support Health & Safety programs, and to challenge board officers on compliance issues.
  • Facilitating new hire health and safety training, advising store management on specific safety issues, and conducting job demand analysis assessments at the office and at store level.
  • Reviewing store plans to identify and order safety supplies to ensure all regulatory requirements are met for new stores, renovations, offices and facilities.
  • Developing written materials for the corporate Health & Safety Program that is compliant with all provincial, federal and regional regulations and setting up the program in newly built and renovated stores.
  • Conducting annual pre-audits in AB and BC in preparation for COR formal audits and liaising with certifying partners and external auditors.
  • Developing new initiatives and policies with WorkSafe and WCB in all provinces.
  • Working jointly with our union partners on Health & Safety initiatives and resolving store specific concerns while developing and delivering joint training.
  • Interpreting regulations and assisting in designing and providing ergonomic advice for store re-models and new stores.
  • Reviewing and assisting with incident investigations and working closely with the Claims team, assisting with Return to Work and/or the accommodations process as required.

You have:

  • A post-secondary education in health and safety management or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in a Health and Safety related role.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) Certification.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Yukon, including First Aid and Global Harmonized System (GHS).
  • An understanding of the BC COR Program and the Alberta Safety Council (ASC)/Partnerships Audit.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • A valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle.

Travel Requirements:

  • You will be required to travel to stores within your region 2-3 times per month.
  • Air and ferry travel across Western Canada may be required (to assist in new store openings or provide support).
