Description

A poultry processing facility in Stutterheim is seeking to employ an Health & safety manager to join its H&S department. A successful candidate will best fit the following criteria-

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years in the same or similar role
  • Grade 12

JOB RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • MS office
  • Time & Attendance software / payroll software advantageous
  • Corrective disciplinary procedures & codes of conduct
Responsibilities
  • Ensuring induction of all employees and visitors to site,
  • maintaining ISO45001 certification,
  • maintaining the document management system,
  • Regular consultation with employees and management with matters relating to Health and Safety,
  • Creating & maintaining safe working procedures for all positions at the production facility,
  • Ensuring all staff have valid medicals,
  • Ensuring that contractors coming to site are conforming to applicable legislation,
  • Ensuring adequate first aid stock is available at all times,
  • Ensuring fire equipment is serviced and functional,
  • Ensuring all staff are trained for the positions that they hold,
  • Ordering and distributing PPE,
  • Ensuring continuous improvement in the Health and Safety system,
  • Holding SHE Representative meetings,
  • Ensuring prompt medical treatment for injured staff,
  • Creating general awareness of a good safety culture,
  • Establish a Health and Safety Management system that can function without constant supervision,
  • Create weekly tool box talks for maintenance department,
  • Sourcing food safe PPE that is suitable for the applications required in the facility,
  • Ensuring staff are trained in the use and limitations of their PPE,
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable legislation,
  • Ensuring PPE is maintained in a satisfactory condition by conducting regular inspections,
  • Investigating incidents to ensure reoccurrence of similar incidents is reduced/eliminated,
  • Conducting evacuation drills for emergency preparedness,
  • Conducting Risk Assessments for activities at the facility and mitigating risks to employees,
  • Updating and revision of documents as required (inspections, training, registers),
  • Creating inspections for various equipment as the need arises,
  • Ensuring inspections are carried out by relevant employees,
  • Identification of problem areas and the recommendations on solutions,
  • Lodging claims on the Department of Employment and Labour COMPEASY Portal,
  • Train SHE Representatives to conduct regular inspections and be able to identify issues and adequately resolve them,
  • Create a maintenance system to mitigate risks associated with working at heights, hot work and general maintenance duties,
  • Weekly and Monthly verification of inspections, &
  • Arranging surveys to ensure a high level of health and safety can be maintained on the premises.
