Description

Our growing Mississauga client who is a leader in the Construction industry is looking for a Health and Safety Manager to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years related experience and will travel from site to site throughout the week. This position requires you to be on the road 2-3 days a week and work from the office and home the rest of the week. The following are the responsibilities:
As a Health and Safety Manager you will work closely with the VP of Fulfillment and Director of Human Resources in all safety matters. The Health and Safety Manager will lead the development and execution of safety initiative that align with business goals and objectives. The Health and Safety Manager will provide internal administrative support to the field/ site teams.

Essential Job Functions Training and Development:

  • Develops and evaluates efficiency of emergency response plan, site-specific safety requirements and site orientation of new hires.
  • Update and maintain SOP’s and all other safety awareness and training documentation. * Track and maintain all training documents, expiration dates in Site Docs.
  • Identifies, evaluates, develops and delivers project specific HSE training.
  • Monitors and audits subcontractor Health & Safety performance.
  • Responsible for quality and effectiveness of Health & Safety training.
  • Identifies, evaluates, develops and delivers project specific HSE training.
  • Creates initiatives to reduce TRIR and LTIR. Mobilization
  • Assist with coordinating safety and health related activities for the site to prevent occupational injury/illness related losses and minimize future liabilities by evaluating risks and establishing appropriate loss control/reduction activities.
  • Coordinate with the GC’s onsite to ensure safety procedures are followed.
  • Facilitates site inspections and monitors the quality and effectiveness of safety plans and reporting. H&S Policies and Compliance:
  • Establish, implements, and maintains Health & Safety policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and other safe work practices in compliance with the OHSA.
  • Conduct site audits to ensure employees and subcontractors are following the health and safety requirements.
  • Stay updated on H&S legislation and adjust policies accordingly.
  • Builds processes, evaluates, and advises on hazard identification. H&S Metrics and Reporting:
  • Track H&S metrics and provide data-driven insights to senior management.
  • Use data for informed decision-making and process improvement. * Ensures completeness and accuracy of Health & Safety reporting.
  • Effectively maintain accident report files, incident files, accident investigations and other safety related reports, regulations and issues Joint Health and Safety and Inspections:
  • Conduct and schedule Joint Health and Safety Meetings and inspections.
  • Conduct job hazard analysis for job tasks in the field and review with committee members. * Ensure all updates are placed on H&S boards and first aid kits are stocked on each site.
  • Lead investigative processes with committee members and provides recommendations for and evaluating corrective actions taken for continuous safe work practices.
  • Manage on site workplace injuries and coordinate with Human Resources on modified duties and/ or return to work.

Education/ Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree/ Diploma in Health and Safety management or equivalent experience or education.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a health and safety role in building construction or related industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction practices, processes, and terminology.
  • Certification with the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) is an asset, but not required.
  • Must hold a Class G License with a clean Driver’s abstract
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable OH&S and environmental legislation and HSE processes. Previous experience developing Health and Safety policies.
  • Previous experience procuring and maintaining COR certification.

Salary - 80K-95K
