The main purpose of the role is to be responsible for leading the HSE team to promote and deliver the group HSE policies and strategies to the site, to be the driver of a safety culture to create a workplace free of risk to health and wellbeing.

THE KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • NEBOSH/NVQ Level 3 or higher in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a health and safety role within food production, or a related industry.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and accident investigations.
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems).

Responsibilities
  • The primary objective is to protect the employees and the environment.
  • Be responsible for leading the HSE team to promote and deliver the group HSE policies to the site.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant HSE legislations, industry-specific regulations and that the HSE legal register is up to date.
  • Identify workplace hazards and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments for all operations, including production, engineering and hygiene.
  • Lead accident investigations, root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure systems are in place for the safe storage and handling of hazardous substances and chemicals.
  • Liaise with group engineering on permit controls procedures and systems for contractors.
  • Keep staff informed of any legislative changes and best safety practices.
  • Conduct regular safety briefings and toolbox talks.
  • Advise directors, managers and supervisors in the implementation of practices and procedures ensuring the site comply with statutory requirements and guidelines, and group standards.
  • Prepare reports for senior management on safety performance, incidents, and improvements.
  • Ensure all MHE, machinery, and PPE comply with safety regulations and standards.
  • Ensure all group HSE KPI’s are reported accurately and on time.
  • Conduct regular health and safety audits across all areas on site to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Develop long-term health and safety plans to enhance the safety culture across all operations
  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of the Cranswick HSE integrated Management System.
  • Ensure all policies, procedures, and processes align with ISO 14001 & 45001 standards.
  • Liaise with HR department and occupational health provider to ensure any health surveillance is carried out.
