We’re looking for a highly skilled Health and Safety Manager to develop, implement, and lead our health and safety programs. In this newly developed role, you will report jointly to the Vice President of Operations and the HR Manager and will have a hands-on role in supporting the growth, safety, and profitability of EM Dynamics by proactively analyzing, designing, and implementing health and safety strategies and programs that contribute positively to a culture of safety excellence.

KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge and experience with various regulations & acts: OHSA, WSIA, MOL and WSIB.
  • 5+ years of experience in health and safety management, ideally from a manufacturing environment.
  • Post secondary graduate from an Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • CRSP designation is an asset.
  • Part 1 and 2 JHSC certification is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, motivation, and team-building skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to accomplish safety objectives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • 5S experience is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Champion our safety culture and provide leadership in developing and implementing Health and Safety strategies. Research (i.e. collaborate with employees, management, and external partners), design and implement health and safety strategy targeting at a minimum legislative compliance, with a focus on mitigating risk and the prevention of injury and illness.
  • Plan, organize, develop, and launch a health and safety plan to accomplish the approved strategy. Ensure completion of project plans, defines deliverables, manages progress and reports on results/metrics to ensure work stays on track. Promote and enforce Health and Safety regulations and safe working practices, while ensuring current compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and other relevant legislations.
  • Lead the Joint Health and Safety Committee, providing support and guidance to co-chairs and committee members. Ensure meetings occur at the predetermine frequency and workplace inspections are completed and followed through for action items.
  • Implement safety training including annual refresher training; coordinate and administer training records for all required training and orientation.
  • Advise stakeholders at all levels of Safety topics including but not limited to topics like hazard identification, risk assessment/mitigation, management support, contractor safety management, supervisor safety talks, etc.
  • Assist in the development, updating and revision of health and safety policies, procedures, and action plans such as maintenance/implementation schedules, Lockout Tagout (LOTO), Heat Stress, Contractor Safety Management, PPE, Accident Investigation, Joint Health & Safety Committee leadership.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the LOTO program including the development, review, and training for LOTO placards for all equipment
  • Provide oversight to the Laser safety officer, develops a laser safety program and individual laser safety parameters for each piece of equipment housing lasers.
  • Provide oversight for a review of machine safeguarding and the completion of Prestart Health and Safety reviews of all appropriate dust collectors, guarding, warehouse racking, etc.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the emergency preparedness and response planning. Carry out responsibilities under the Emergency Plan and supports business recovery and continuity plans.
  • Conduct investigations in partnership with managers and Human Resources related to safety requirements including work related injury, illness, work refusal, workplace violence and harassment etc.
  • Develop and complete an inventory of assessments/inspections related to safety concerns, legislative/risk requirements, and workplace accidents.
  • Create and foster a health and safety culture for employees by developing, communicating, implementing, and promoting clearly defined programs, initiatives and measures that leverage best practices. Be available to resolve issues and spend time coaching on the production floor.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a diverse, high-performing team managers that support business needs and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure on-going management and employee training on standards, procedures, guidelines, and materials to promote and sustain high performance employees.
  • Build processes for, implement, and follow up on accurate, timely completion of various health & safety surveys, audits, and reports.
