Mission:
The core mission of the Health and Safety Officer is to ensure a safe and secure work environment for all employees at all times. By implementing innovative systems and procedures, they ensure accurate documentation while engaging with every team member to foster collaboration and develop a ‘first in class’ safety record.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Daily Near Miss & Incident Reporting involves documenting any safety-related events that occur during daily operations. Near misses are potential incidents that didn’t cause harm, while incidents result in injury or damage. Daily reporting helps identify risks, prevent accidents, and improve safety through proactive actions and corrective measures. It fosters a safety-focused culture and allows for continuous improvement.
  • Monthly Safety Statistics track and report key safety data, including incidents, near misses, injuries, and compliance metrics. These statistics help identify trends, measure safety performance, and highlight areas for improvement to ensure a safer work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality control, and maintenance management.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Established success growing operations and expanding facilities.
  • Proven track record of implementing process improvements and driving operational excellence.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations and best practices.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Other Training preferable but not required
  • WSH Certification
  • First Aid Training
  • NCSO Certification
  • Train the Trainer Forklift, Fall Arrest, and Crane Training
  • OHS Awareness Training
Responsibilities
  • Monitoring, maintaining, auditing, and continuously improving Arrowquip’s Safe Work Certified safety program
  • Performing risk assessments and maintaining the company risk register
  • Working with stakeholders to implement corrective actions and risk mitigation measures to counteract identified risks
  • Ensuring safety related compliance of business processes
  • Improving processes to meet provincial compliance standards
  • Report daily to plant leadership on near misses, workplace incidents, and safety concerns
  • Conduct new worker safety orientations and tours
  • Investigate incidents and report findings to share holders
  • Report incidents as needed to WSH and WCB and manage claims accordingly
  • Program safe return to work schedules and liaison with health providers, and internal stakeholders
  • Lead and organize worker equipment training and manage training inventory
  • Perform internal departmental safety inspections
  • Advise on business practices and shop processes when safety is a concern or relevant
  • Write safe work procedures and assist in developing worker training documents
  • Write and conduct toolbox talks to various shop teams
  • Coordinate health and safety committee reps, ensuring training is provided, appropriate reps Sare appointed and take minutes at monthly meetings
  • Hold all employees and guests accountable to adhering to safe work guidelines
