JOB SUMMARY:

The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental legislation and standards across Suretank’s operations. The role promotes a positive safety culture, reduces risk, and protects the health and wellbeing of all employees and contractors on site. Responsibilities
  • Adherence to Safety Milestones: Ensure all health and safety actions, inspections, and compliance checks align with project and operational timelines, proactively resolving issues to prevent delays or disruptions.
  • Value in Safety: Identify and implement proactive safety measures that reduce risk, minimise downtime, and enhance operational efficiency without compromising compliance or employee wellbeing.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure all health and safety activities follow company policies and industry regulations.
  • Training & Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to team members on safety best practices to foster professional growth and a strong safety culture.
  • Develop and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and safety statements.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Support the investigation and reporting of accidents and incidents.
  • Deliver safety training and awareness sessions to employees and contractors.
  • Liaise with external agencies, including the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and insurance inspectors.
  • Ensure safety registers, permits, and documentation are properly maintained.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of ISO 45001 standards.
  • Some off-site visits may be required.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn in designated areas.
  • Qualifications:
  • Relevant Health and Safety qualification (e.g. Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a health and safety role, preferably within manufacturing, engineering, or industrial settings.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish health and safety legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience in conducting risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with employees, management, and external bodies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and health and safety management software.
  • Certification in Manual Handling Instruction or First Aid.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 or other occupational health and safety management systems.
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance and sustainability practices.
