Description

Works as member of the Environmental Health and Occupational Safety (Safety) department. Receives guidance from the Senior Health & Safety Specialist and direction from the Director of the department. Works cooperatively with Safety staff and customers to accomplish job. Maintains effective working relationship with variety of staff. Acts on behalf of the department Director (Safety Officer) in their absence, and the absence of other senior level positions, to ensure continuity of safety management and emergency response direction. Will have contact outside Mayo as job duties require. Majority of time is spent as a safety consultant and resource in guiding activities within the safety, emergency management, and hazardous materials and waste programs in a customer focused environment. Participates in administrative duties as assigned, including budget and resource allocation, and facilitation of staff involved with safety-related projects. Develops and facilitates implementation of creative ideas and suggestions to improve systems, processes, and service; develops and implements new policies and procedures; develops and implements educational programs; evaluates established procedures and educational programs for effectiveness. Must be able to develop, conduct, and facilitate safety audits and perform hazard assessments, including the interpretation of results and facilitate implementation of solutions. Able to analyze and interpret data and participates in decisions regarding data validity and conclusions. Collaborates with enterprise safety, emergency management, and waste management contacts.
