Description POSITION TITLE: Health and Safety Specialist STATUS: Non-Exempt; FT (Temporary) GRADE: 2 DEPT: ECS PROGRAM: CCR&R – CCAP SALARY: $40K-$45K SUPPORTED BY: PDM Director SUMMARY: Assists in overseeing and directing the planning, organizing and implementation of health & safety support services for license exempt childcare providers that receive payment from the IDHS Child Care Assistance Program under the direction of the Program Design and Management Director. COLLABORATES WITH: The Client Relations Specialist – CCR&R manages relationships with the Early Childhood staff, program members and other visitors to the center; other YWCA staff members; and community representatives. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1) Scheduling and conducting on-site visits to license exempt childcare providers to ensure that required health & safety trainings have been completed and tat practices are being implemented 2) Build and maintain strong relationships with license-exempt childcare providers 3) Promote, educate, and train providers on relevant topics as it pertains to health & safety 4) Ability to identify health & safety violations in the childcare environment 5) Corrects and/or coaches to ensure program is compliant with all relevant health & safety requirements 6) Gather and maintain statistical data, complete reports, prepare correspondence, and distribute information 7) Acts as community liaison for the agency KEY DELIVERABLES: · Complete a minimum of at least one on-site visit with all license-exempt providers within service delivery area per fiscal year · Track and analyze data on training and health & safety intervention strategy results · Develops and facilitates trainings for childcare providers, educators, and other social service sectors on health and safety related topics NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate in administrative and program meetings, as appropriate. OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: Other duties outside of the responsibilities of the position may be assigned, whether for a project, special needs task or other assignment. QUALIFICATIONS: ¨ Minimum of an Associate’s degree in a relevant field such as child development, education, sociology, project management ¨ Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative skills, culturally competent, comfortable working with diverse cultural backgrounds ¨ Effective oral and written communication skills ¨ Thrives in an environment in which collaboration, partnership, and empowerment are key cultural elements ¨ Flexible attitude, respectful, enthusiastic advocate who is eager to learn new things ¨ Regular access to reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license and auto insurance ¨ Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends ¨ Ability to travel ¨ Ability to pass criminal background check Professional Training Required: A minimum of fifteen (15) hours of professional training related to Early Childhood and/or to the responsibilities of the position is required annually. An Associate’s degree or progress toward completion of a degree is preferred. CERTIFICATION(s) REQUIRED: NA WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment includes offices; members and visitors may visit with children. The noise level is usually moderate. Movement requirements include walking, stooping or kneeling. There may be a need to reach, lift or move objects, such as packages, supplies and computers. Normal (or corrected) vision range; ability to see color and to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols are necessary to the work, which may require close viewing. Occasionally may need to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Communication needs include seeing, hearing and speaking. While in the office, there will be periods of sitting, holding a telephone and using computers. Reasonable accommodations may be made for an incumbent to meet the essential responsibilities of the position. WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. This position may require work on some evenings and weekends. Schedule can vary depending on the needs of the agency.
