ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education with certification in Health and Safety and Environment preferred
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in health & safety coordinator role
  • Positive and dynamic attitude oriented towards communication and courtesy
  • Solid knowledge of related Occupational Health & Safety Acts, Workers Compensation Act, Disability Management, and Return to Work programs
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in HSE auditing
  • Strong knowledge in Microsoft office suite
  • First aid and CPR certification is an asset
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Comfortable working in an industrial facility that performs abrasive blasting and coatings
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations
  • Ability to sit and/or stand continuously at workstation
  • Fine motor skills to keyboard/type continuously
  • Must have 6 inch CSA approved safety boots and will be provided with eyewear and hard hat
  • Work may be indoor or outdoor in a possibly dusty work environment

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the implementation and monitoring of prevention plan, policies and procedures, while ensuring compliance with corporate regulations and standards as well as all laws governing health and safety at work.
  • Facilitate safety inspections with supervisors and JHSC members and support where required
  • Participate as a member of the site joint health & safety committee and attend sustainability meetings, Corporate HSE meetings and conferences as required
  • Perform new hire orientation and employee safety training (respiratory, fall protection, confined space, process safety management, incentive program, emergency and evacuation program)
  • Work with supervisors and managers to ensure their crews work in compliance with company and client policies and procedures and regulatory standards
  • Provide daily support to managers and employees on matters relating to safety and health.
  • Support the investigation process with regard to any safety incidents or accidents.
  • Perform and co-ordinate facility inspections and audits
  • Perform subcontractor orientations and confirm worker’s compensation standings prior to performance of on-site work.
  • Maintaining training data matrix and injury/incident database
  • Develop or assist in development of action plans to reduce or eliminate occupational illnesses and injuries
  • Maintain facility’s emergency and evacuation plans and other relevant processes as required
  • Co-operate with the Manager of H & S (Canada) standardizing the H & S system amongst the TFWG Canada facilities – including procedures, training, auditing, and record keeping
  • Organize, facilitate and coordinate with third party groups
  • Assist with Return to Work plans as required
  • Liaise with WSIB on matter related to workplace injuries (i.e.) Form 7
  • Actively participate to ensure environmental reporting requirements are met
  • Maintain online Contractor software management programs to ensure compliance
  • Other tasks as assigned
