ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (e.g. science, life sciences) or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum four (4) years’ relevant experience, including experience in a university environment with hazardous chemicals and provision of safety services.
  • Experience with assessing compliance during visits in permitted labs using a predefined checklist and working with and providing reports to compliance inspectors.
  • Be willing to pursue professional Memberships/affiliations in one or more of: Association of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals, Occupational Hygiene Association of Ontario, or in the process of obtaining.
  • Knowledge and hands on experience with instrument analysis, quality control, optimizing workflow and interpreting/communicating results.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a larger team.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow established process

Responsibilities

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Preparing, assembling and setting-up material, equipment and supplies used in Legionella testing; operate lab equipment
  • Proactive maintenance of equipment, creating and editing a standard operating procedures, troubleshoot technical hurdles as well as communicate these challenges to management and facilities/property management.
  • Providing advice to others on hazardous material management practices and procedures
  • Investigating and reporting on health, safety and regulatory non-compliance occurrences, recording reported safety issues and resolving or referring for resolution
  • Conducting routine inspections of assigned facilities and equipment.
