- Live near McKenzie Towne (to ensure convenience and long-term commitment to the role),
- Drive a vehicle,
- Are available for 90 minutes in the morning (flexible between 8 and 10 am), and
- Are available for 60 minutes in the evening (flexible between 4 and 5 pm).
We are looking for compassionate and dedicated Health Care Aides or Caregivers to provide personalized support to a senior female client with dementia in the McKenzie Towne area. This role involves assisting the client with her morning and evening routines, fostering a safe and engaging environment, and ensuring her overall well-being.
The client requires approximately 90 minutes of care in the morning to get her ready for the day and 60 minutes in the evening to help her wind down, seven days a week. This schedule may involve two caregivers to ensure consistent support.
The client’s family strongly prefers that the caregiver live within a 10-minute driving radius to ensure long-term reliability and to minimize travel-related challenges that could affect the caregiver’s commitment.
QUALIFICATIONS
To succeed in this role, candidates should have:
- Previous experience working with dementia clients, with knowledge of senior care practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with the client, family members, and other caregivers.
- Physical stamina to manage tasks that may require extended standing or light physical support.
- A compassionate and patient demeanor, with a genuine passion for caregiving.
- Certification as a Health Care Aide (HCA) or registration with the Alberta HCA Directory is preferred but not mandatory.
- Residence within a 10-minute driving radius of McKenzie Towne to ensure convenience and long-term commitment to the role.
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Health Care Aide or Caregiver, your duties will include:
- Assisting the client with daily activities, including developing a consistent personal hygiene routine and encouraging adherence to prescribed medication schedules.
- Providing companionship and emotional support, creating a nurturing and mentally stimulating environment.
- Encouraging participation in activities designed to promote cognitive engagement and overall well-being.
- Monitoring the client’s condition and reporting any changes to family members or healthcare professionals as needed.
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment while adhering to hygiene and safety standards.
- Assisting with mild housekeeping specific to the client’s space, including making the bed and tidying up the washroom.
- Encouraging and supporting the client in managing laundry tasks to foster independence while providing necessary assistance.
- Employing effective communication techniques suited to dementia care and fostering trust with the client.
