Your Opportunity:
The Health Care Aide (HCA) will report to the Unit Manager of 4D- Pediatric Inpatient Surgery unit. The HCA is a member of the Stollery’s multidisciplinary team, and as such will be cross- trained to support other departments including but not limited to the following: inpatient units (4C, 4E3, 4E4, 5G, 4A7) and the Pediatric Surgery, ENT, and Ophthalmology Clinics Cross-training will take place over time, as a gradual capacity building measure within the Unit. As a member of the multidisciplinary team caring for children, the HCA provides direct patient care in accordance with both the UAH and Stollery Children’s Hospital policies and procedures. The HCA will recognize the value of and incorporate a Family Centered Care philosophy in their day-to-day interactions. Responsibilities include but not limited to the following: direct patient care under the guidance and direct supervision by a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse (including transferring and lifting patients, assisting with ADL’s and documenting in connect care), portering, maintaining inventory of supplies, delivering specimens to labs, cleaning, and maintaining equipment, monitoring unit tidiness including equipment in storage rooms. Physical requirements include long periods of standing, walking, and lifting in a fast-paced environment with patients of varying sizes and degree of mobility
Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients’ hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient’s mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.
