JOB DESCRIPTION: HEALTH CARE ASSISTANT (HCA)

Reports To: Clinical Supervisor or Delegated RN/LPN
Work Location: Client’s Home (as authorized by the designated authority)

JOB SUMMARY

Provides direct personal care and assistance to injured workers in their homes to support activities of daily living and foster independence, under the supervision of a regulated health care professional.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a recognized Health Care Assistant program.
  • Registered in the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Clear criminal record check under CRRA.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Experience in community/home care preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Assist clients with personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
  • Support safe ambulation, transfers, and positioning using assistive devices.
  • Encourage client independence and participation in self-care where appropriate.
  • Perform simple household tasks including meal preparation and light housekeeping related to care.
  • Observe and report changes in the client’s condition to supervising nurse.
  • Maintain documentation and records as per Designated authority protocols.
  • Provide companionship and psychosocial support within the care plan.
  • Follow infection control protocols, including hand hygiene and PPE use.
  • Assist with range of motion (ROM) exercises under supervision.
  • Attend training and orientation as required by the employer and Designated authority.
