Healthcare Assistant (HCA) – GP Surgery
Location: Hesa Medical Centre, 52 Station Road, Hayes, UB3 4DD
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Job Summary
We are looking for a caring and motivated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly team at Hesa Medical Centre, Hayes (37.5 hrs/week). You will support our GPs and nurses with health checks, wound care, vaccinations, ECGs, venepuncture, and patient education, helping us deliver high-quality care to our local community. About the Role
We are looking for a friendly, caring and motivated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our supportive GP surgery team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in providing high-quality patient care, health promotion, and essential clinical services within primary care. You’ll be part of a welcoming multidisciplinary team, with opportunities for training and professional development.
Primary Responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may, on occasion, be a requirement to carry out other tasks depending on workload and staffing levels:
· Undertake new patient health checks
· Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
· Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, recording findings accurately
· Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
· Undertake wound care, dressings, and other clinical tasks as required
· Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
· Carry out BMI checks as directed
· Act as a chaperone as required
· When trained, undertake venepuncture
· When trained, administer flu vaccinations
· Carry out ECGs as requested
· Ensure specimens are recorded and prepared for onward transportation
· Provide support during minor operations as required
· Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
· Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with current guidance
· Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins are replaced in line with the practice IPC policy
· Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
Secondary Responsibilities
· Participate in practice audits as directed by the audit lead
· Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
· Support and participate in shared learning within the practice
· Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota
About You
· Healthcare qualification (Level 3/4 or working towards)
· Experience in a healthcare or GP surgery setting (desirable)
· Skills in phlebotomy (training can be provided)
· Experience of using the EMIS clinical system (essential)
· Strong communication, IT, and teamwork skills
· Compassionate, professional & committed to patient care
