JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our team at [GP Surgery Name]. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the clinical team by providing high-quality care to patients, with a particular focus on phlebotomy (taking blood samples). This role involves working closely with GPs, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of healthcare services.

EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience in phlebotomy in a primary care or healthcare setting.
  • Phlebotomy certification or evidence of formal training.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Competent IT skills and familiarity with clinical systems (e.g., EMIS, SystmOne).
  • Understanding of infection prevention and control and health & safety protocols.
Responsibilities
  • Perform phlebotomy (blood taking) in accordance with training and protocols.
  • Prepare and label blood samples for laboratory testing.
  • Accurately record patient data and update clinical records.
  • Ensure proper infection control procedures are followed at all times.
  • Measuring and recording vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, temperature).
  • Urinalysis, ECGs, and other diagnostic tests (as trained).
  • Supporting chronic disease management clinics (e.g., diabetes, hypertension).
  • Assist with health promotion activities and lifestyle advice under clinical supervision.
  • Maintain a clean and safe clinical environment, including the stocking and cleaning of clinical rooms.
  • Support vaccination clinics (e.g., flu campaigns) as required.
  • Provide a high level of patient care and maintain patient confidentiality.
