HEALTH CARE ASSISTANT

Highbury House Nursing Home is a privately-run nursing care home looking for someone with a genuine interest in working within a caring environment to become our Healthcare Assistant for the day shift. There is currently one role available.
Hours: 36 hours per week, 12-hour shifts, (Covering Monday-Sunday). Please note Th sift pattern will be one weekend on (both Saturday and Sunday), then one weekend off. Must be able to work weekends.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • To assist the service users in personal care including washing, bathing, dressing and toilet needs, in an empathetic manner.
  • To ensure that service users who have any aids, e.g. dentures, hearing, spectacles, etc. are fitted, cleaned and in working order.
  • To help service user’ with mobility problems and other physical disabilities, including incontinence.
  • To care for service users who are temporarily sick and needing help, e.g. bed nursing, monitoring.
  • To help care for service users who are dying, with utmost respect and empathy.
  • To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of service user by supporting them through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreations.
  • To respect service user’s possessions when keeping their rooms clean, changing their beds, tidying rooms and doing light cleaning such as empty commodes etc, with great attention to detail.
  • To answer call bells, emergency bells, the door and the telephone when necessary; greet and welcome visitors and third-party providers offering refreshments where appropriate
  • To read and write reports where it is the homes policy for carers to do this; take part in staff and service users’ meetings; complete all monitoring sheets as directed.
  • To undertake any training necessary for the completion of your duties. To be aware of Mandatory training and dates to attend training.
  • To set tables and trays; serve meals, snacks and drinks; feed service users who need help and monitor intake; prepare light meals (outside regular hours) and wash up; and clear dining room.
  • To report to the home manager or person in charge any significant changes in the health or circumstances of a service user; to respect the rights of the service users including privacy and dignity.
  • To report any concerns regarding possible abuse of service users immediately to the person in charge.
  • To adhere to the policy relating to personal appearance and the uniform policy whilst on duty.
  • To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.
