SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the EHS Associate Director, is responsible for providing health and disabilities services for the Early Head Start program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other qualifications listed below are needed to adequately fulfill essential job duties.   • Current and valid driver’s license.
  • Current and clean driver’s abstract.
  • Current automobile insurance.
  • Access to a registered vehicle.
  • Current CPR/FA certification.
  • Current TB clearance.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Word and Excel.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Must have training and experience in public health, nursing, health education, maternal and child health, or health administration. Must be well organized, self-motivated and can work with little supervision. Good verbal and written communication skills necessary, computer proficiency desired, knowledge of early childhood development preferred.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible in coordinating with other program staff in ensuring families are linked with an ongoing system of health care, counsel families about child or family health problems, and promote parent involvement in all aspects of the health program.
  2. Negotiate with the Health Services Advisory Committee and local health care professionals and service providers to ensure services for families are available and accessible.
  3. Responsible for establishing procedures for tracking, documenting, and reporting health care services; review, evaluate, and interpret health records and other vital health service data.
  4. Promote health and safety practices in the program and coordinate short-term exclusion and admittance, medication administration, safety and injury prevention, sanitation and hygiene procedures, first aid, and emergency medical procedures.
  5. Conduct participant health screening as deemed appropriate and necessary.
  6. Participate in the review and creation of health procedures, forms, and Integrated Service Area Plans.
  7. Participate in the Community and Self-Assessment process.
  8. Provide training to staff and parents on topics such as observations and documentation of observations regarding new or recurring medical or developmental concerns, to assist with appropriate referrals and follow-up.
