Description

Coastal Horizons Center, Inc., a recognized leader in substance use, mental health, rape crisis, prevention and criminal justice services, based in Wilmington, NC., has an opportunity for a Health Equity and Community Impact Director, to become part of our leadership team. The Health Equity and Community Impact Director partners with the President & CEO, members of the organization’s Management Team, senior staff leaders and community stakeholders to develop and drive forward the key health equity and community impact strategies of the organization.

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:

Basic requirements: Minimum bachelor’s degree in management or human service field. Minimum 5 years’ experience in non-profit or mental health leadership with progressive work in equity initiatives.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience advocating for and implementing change within a multi-cultural environment, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience developing and implementing equity/inclusion programs, or equivalent.
  • Direct service, nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Must demonstrate strong community involvement and engagement in community initiatives
  • Ability to communicate in languages other than English preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural values and norms of various communities, particularly with communities of color, LGBTQ+ and Recovery communities.
  • Understanding of culturally specific resources available within the community.
  • Effective intercultural communication skills and ability to advocate/address issues of equity.
  • Sensitivity and understanding of specific barriers which may lead to lack of access and engagement
  • Experience supervising and leading teams.
  • Experience developing, implementing and facilitating trainings.
  • Must adhere to agency’s non-discrimination policies
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and clients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, cultural backgrounds, lifestyles, and sexual orientation, and to treat everyone with respect and dignity.
  • Possession of a North Carolina Driver’s license
  • A valid driver’s license and/or government-issued ID is required. Must have reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

The Health Equity and Community Impact Director will be primarily responsible for setting, implementing and achieving an overreaching vision of equitable and inclusive organization initiatives for the organization, both at the program and administrative levels that work to eliminate organizational marginalization, while promoting equity/inclusion practices to be evidenced through our structures, customs, and leadership. The successful Health Equity and Community Impact Director will be an inspiring, collaborative, innovative and visionary leader with outstanding relationship building and management skills.
