We have an exciting opportunity for someone to become part of our stop smoking team to work specifically with individuals with mental ill health to support them to quit smoking and to lead a healthier lifestyle.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Ideally we are looking for someone with:

  • A degree or professional qualification in a relevant field, such as, education, health, health promotion or similar e.g. Health Coaching, Level 3 Education & Training. PLUS Level 2/3 (Practitioner) smoking cessation competencies plus mental health module
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience of working with mental health service users.
  • The ability to work using a community development approach with people and building effective working relationships.
  • Experience of receiving & communicating personal and sensitive information on a range of health-related topics and signposting to other services where appropriate.
  • An ability to motivate, inspire and influence mental health service users and staff to include the importance of smoking cessation.
  • Experience of working with partner organisations to deliver tailored health interventions.
  • The ability to use health coaching as a technique to delivering community-based interventions.
  • A flexible, solution focussed and adaptable approach to enable confident working within multiple programme areas.
  • The ability to operate confidently and independently in an environment where IT is the main method of record keeping, communication and programme management. This will include the use of virtual platforms (e.g. MS Teams) for service delivery as part of an online offer.
Responsibilities

THE ROLE:

The postholder will be part of the stop smoking team and will work specifically with individuals with mental ill health to support them to quit smoking and to lead a healthier lifestyle.
The postholder will seek to understand the barriers communities and individuals who experience mental ill health face in engaging with stop smoking support.
Advisors will offer support around stop smoking specific behaviours and work to support individuals to overcome their barriers around stop smoking. This will mean working closely with communities, partners and fellow professionals that also support individuals with mental ill health to deliver and promote consistent and evidence-based practice.
Training for this role will be available for all incoming staff.
This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.
This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.
