GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Health Information Assistant is involved in many different areas pertaining to the medical record process. Using guidelines in accordance with hospital policy, the Health Information Assistant performs duties for the implementation of an efficient health information system for the Bayhealth Medical Center.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CREDENTIAL(S) AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED;;
  • Credential(s): ;
  • Experience:Required: Six months office experience.
    Preferred: Experience in an office environment working with medical records/confidential information.

Responsibilities
  1. Retrieves records for continuing care purposes, committee meetings, research purposes, and audits as requested. Deliver records to requested areas within the hospital.
  2. Assembles and analyzes medical records for initial completion of deficiencies and updates computerized chart deficiency/location system to denote current physician responsibility and record location.
  3. Retrieves and places transcription on incomplete records to expedite the coding and completion of the medical chart process. Re-files incomplete medical records and updated computerized chart tracking system to denote location of record.
  4. Prepares completed records for filing in permanent file.
  5. Performs computerized count of incomplete and deficient medical records. Performs audits and shifts files to maintain integrity of computerized chart tracking system and incomplete medical record files.
  6. Assists physicians and other hospital personnel with understanding the dictation system, record completion requirements, and Health Information department system.
  7. All other duties as assigned, within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
