Description Role: The Health Information Specialist (Full-Time) Work Location: Hybrid - Akron, OH Applicants must be located in or near Akron, OH. The Health Information Specialist is responsible for securely processing and maintaining accurate client information and documentation in the Electronic Health Record. Essential Functions and Duties: Handle inquiries from various internal and external/community partner resources Ensure all required forms are properly completed and entered into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) client charts Verify guardianships Obtain proper signatures on required documents and forms Transfer files from open to closed Assist with committee reviews and agency audits as needed Assist staff with various support needs Scan and upload documentation to the EHR Establish, secure and maintain physical files/electronic documentation as necessary Assist with Requests for Information (ROIs) Assist with case record storage, retrieval and purging in accordance with legal requirements and the agency’s policies and procedures Assist with preparing records and documentation as needs arise Complete data entry and file/report processing Perform other functions and duties as required Requirements Qualifications: Requires high school diploma with at least 2 years of experience Insurance and/or medical industry background/experience Experience in patient intake Customer focused background/experience is a plus Proficient use of common office software and solutions Basic computer knowledge and skills Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Passion for working with those living with mental illness and other at- risk populations Insurance and/or medical industry knowledge Good computer skills Customer service orientation Excellent communication skills Must be mobile and have ability to get to all levels of the building Able to work alone or in a team environment Familiarity with web sites for eligibility (navigation of resource websites) Ability to multi- task Organized and flexible Attention to details HIPAA compliant Maintain confidentiality of information Knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, spelling and basic math. Advanced clerical office procedures; filing methods; telephone procedures, business telephone etiquette. Ability to deal tactfully with people; write legibly to record information; prepare correspondence; understand and follow oral and written instructions; verbally communicate information clearly and concisely to others. Ability to operate office equipment such as personal computer, printer, copier, and fax machine; organize and prioritize work; proofread documents and correspondence; file information alphabetically, numerically, and chronologically. Ability to work semi-independently.
